Great singer. Have a CD of her and Bing together. And no one beats her version of He's A Tramp from Lady and the Tramp.

It's interesting and good for anyone who is new to Bing. Wish there were more documentaries and films on things like Netflix etc.

Bing appears singing at the very end.  This is completely new to us and presumably was filmed by Chesterfield when Bing signed for them.

Great find.

As my brother said to me yesterday, Vera had always been around. Very few of us, if any, can remember a time when she wasn't famous. Lovely lady who never officially retired, and who holds a number of records in the UK for the oldest artist to have both a top 30 hit album, and a number one album.

I uploaded to my You Tube channel some of the rarer recordings that Bing made from 1948 to 1949 including all of the songs from the movie Riding High. Bing was in good voice but sometimes the songs were not up to par with his talent. You can see all the videos here:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdzHQtVj1NJrqwL2MbHD-4fu9m4XAc97Z

I will also be uploading most of the new recordings to the Internet Archive. It is easy to download from there, but it is time consuming to upload the recordings there. My collection there is: https://archive.org/details/@a_trip_down_memory_lane if anyone is interested!

ENJOY!

Thank you.

Possibly another Christmas album, but I love the idea of a greatest hits with the orchestra, as they've done with Elvis, Buddy Holly etc.

Biggest selling record of all time. And still the best Christmas record.

Thanks for sharing about your uncle.

As it was so sudden probably not. However, as has been said, today people at risk, and those over a certain age, are often tested. There are stents, bypasses etc and medication. He might have still had his heart attack, but he might not.

One of those great imponderables.

Seasons. I was 8 when Bing died and my Granddad was a big Bing fan. He bought the album and I remember him playing it. When he died I inherited it. Still has happy memories for me.

I think, John that your answer is at the very start of this thread. The software is "DeOldifier" and it caters for stills and movies apparently. I have been sent a couple of samples and you can see the result of ModerBingFan's work by following his link.

There are other software programmes for colouring still photos.

An internet search on "image colorizing software" brings up quite a number including this review of five free applications. https://medium.com/@photoj/colorize-black-and-white-photos-free-ed5b36f1efe5

Thanks Richard!

Richard, you say that Bing set these two albums up on his own. Was that because his label wouldn't or was it just something Bing wanted to do?

Thanks!

John, It was not particularly new for Bing to act as producer for his recordings - he had been making and leasing out recordings since the end of the 1950s through his "Project" label, and though he had an agreement with UA in 1975 it would not be correct to call them "his" label.

At the time Bing had agreed to a five record deal with United Artists for recordings to be produced by Ken Barnes. Outside this agreement Bing recorded "A Southern Memoir" in January 1975 and "Bingo Viejo" later in the year whilst the UA recordings were started in February.

Bing offered his two independent albums to UA also but they were reluctant to issue them in advance of the records he had agreed with them, so he concluded a leasing agreement with British Decca, which issued them.

Fascinating. Thanks Richard, appreciate it!

I wouldn't say Bing's voice was worn out by 1945, but the song just doesn't suit him.
