Featuring rare, never-before-released tracks and iconic Porter classics like “Night and Day,” “Anything Goes,” and “You’re The Top,” this album is filled with musical masterpieces.

Anybody know anything about the "rare, never-before-released tracks" mentioned?

Yes, "It's Christmas" was featured on the 1959 and 1960 editions of the Christmas Sing. Here's an upload of it from YouTube; https://youtu.be/qRlpgV05VKc?si=UX3LjwzL6dS1woHm

Ah ha! Thank you - and I'm even MORE surprised now to know that there is a rare Bing Christmas song that has gotten so little distribution. Wonder why they didn't put THAT on the new "Christmas Gems" release? Unless I'm mistaken in thinking that the Crosby Archive must have pristine versions of all the "Christmas Sing" recordings in the vault.

Just bumping this thread since it's Christmastime so people who've never heard these can listen!

Heard a Crosby show at noon today on SiriusXM's Holiday Traditions channel while driving around with my family. They had a bunch of recordings featuring him with Rosemary Clooney, and a song I had never heard before. (I think it was called "It's Christmas"?) I assume it's from a "Christmas Sing with Bing" edition I'm unfamiliar with?

Wonderful to hear Bing get such star treatment on that channel.

While I hate to be negative, I must admit I'm not very enthused about this release. It pales in comparison to "The Crosby Christmas Sessions" back in 2010, which really was full of rare gems in wonderful sound quality. In some ways it feels to me like a rebranded version of the "Christmas with Bing!" CD that the Bing Crosby Archive put out via Sony in 2013, though I acknowledge that seems to have had a limited release.

I guess my disappointment stems partly from a feeling that they could have done much more with this. Could someone do a better remastering job on "Just What I Wanted for Christmas"? Could they find some more pristine recordings from the "Christmas Sing with Bing" shows? What about seeing if they can get high-quality versions of the songs he did for The Hollywood Palace but never recorded commercially, like "The Christmas Waltz" and "This is That Time of the Year"?

Just my two cents.

One song that finally got a full version because of Christmas Sing With Bing was Good King Wenceslas, which I am thankful for!

Has anyone done a full discography for the eight "Christmas Sing with Bing" shows? There are bits and pieces in the (wonderful) Bing Magazine discography but it seems more based on whether the recordings got a commercial release.

I have to think most if not all of those recordings are in the Crosby vault in high quality, right?

I could have sworn that Bing recorded O Little Town Of Bethlehem for Decca in the 1940s. It seems like he just recorded a short version in for the 1957 album Christmas Sing Around The World With Bing. I really could have sworn he recorded the whole song. Am I going crazy?

Also have you ever sworn you heard a record by somebody but then you find out you were dreaming? LOL

Maybe because he did it so many times in the '50s! He managed to sing it five times that decade on radio and TV shows, according to the online discography. Perry Como recorded a somewhat Bing-like version in the '40s for RCA.

Maybe Bader should look in Bing's basement for it. He found a lot of stuff in that basement.

He definitely should. Not only would it be a musical treasure to find this - it would be a goldmine for everyone involved!

Over the years I've heard all sorts of different theories about why we have never gotten an official, licensed "White Christmas" soundtrack even though it seems like something that would be a big money-maker for whoever put it out.

I've read that there are issues with the rights. (Hence the business where they recorded the songs for Decca with Peggy Lee substituting for Columbia-contracted Rosemary Clooney.) I've read that the original soundtrack masters are either lost or destroyed.

But I still don't get it. They just found the soundtrack to "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" from 1966 so is it really so hard to believe there might be pristine versions of the "White Christmas" soundtrack recordings in a vault somewhere, waiting to be released?

What are the facts here? What do we actually know for sure?

Say, good find! I hope they post more of these. I think the estate can do more with his TV work. I'd love to see them really dig through the master recordings for his TV specials, especially the ones with great arrangers like Nelson Riddle, and add that to their streaming offerings.

This later stuff produced by people like Geoff Milne, Ken Barnes & Pete Moore found them good at mixing tracks & enhanced vocals, noting orchestrations in 'stereo'. Some of it good, some not. So at least the aging Bing was at least found some good product, they are not sloppy jobs, (as much other previous other Crosby stuff, especially on LP. Total embarrassments with Simon Rady's "Gang 101" & "EL Senor Bing". Bing also seems interested, which always helped him. My own ears, however, have problems with all this electronic mess. After 1960, the only FULL albums that find vocal & production value, without mistakes are "I Wish You A Merry Christmas ",(Warner Brothers), the Christmas (Daybreak) recordings, & some of the orchestration backings of the 2 Longines recordings LPs.  FULL albums with other artists-"Robin & The 7 Hoods LP" & "12 Songs Of Christmas LP", are also excellent.

I'm glad to hear someone else as disappointed as I am in the mastering of "El Señor Bing," which should be so much more fun considering Billy May did the arrangements. What the heck went wrong there?

And your overall point is a good one. The album with Buddy Bergman also seems like it could desperately use a top-notch remastering job, even though I know many fans feel the arrangements themselves are rather iffy.

I always hold out hope we will get some new recordings - or better remastering. Anyone know any details about this one?

Now there's a "Latin" one which just looks to be "El Señor Bing" and associated bonus tracks, and a "Hawaiian" one that's the same using "Return to Paradise Islands."

My fear is that there's more incentive for Primary Wave to just repackage the same recordings, over and over, with different cover art to attract streaming listeners -- rather than release anything new from the vaults.

I still think the TV soundtracks are such an unmined treasurer. How about everything Nelson Riddle arranged for him on TV, for example?

I'm a little disappointed - was hoping they'd gotten more from the TV soundtracks rather than just Mosaic retreads.

Where is "Raindrops" from?

After discovering "Bingo Viejo" I decided to dip back into some of Bing's other 1970s recordings. I put on the Complete United Artists set, and was struck by just how intense the "echo" is around his vocals.

Is that how those tracks sounded on the original LPs, or was that a decision by the people who did the digital remastering? Personally I think it makes the tracks less enjoyable.

I finally read Volume 2 last year after having to put it off due to work and family obligations, and I had the same reaction. Bing fans are so blessed that someone with Giddins' breadth of knowledge and superlative writing skills decided to become Crosby's biographer. I also think the fact Giddins wanted to do the book(s) reinforces how Bing really is a touchstone to understand so much of 20th Century pop culture.

I still hope we get Volume 3. Giddins is only 75, and Robert Caro is still writing the LBJ series in his 80s!

The Internet Archive has uploaded an LP from 1968 called "Bing & Kathy's African Safari To The Terrat Metropolitan Area, Kenya" that it says was put out by something called Trader Vic's.

You can listen to it here: https://archive.org/details/lp_bing-kathys-african-safari-to-the-terr_bing-crosby-kathryn-crosby-victor-berge

Does anyone know anything about it?

Understandable - though on the other hand, if the lower cost of a digital-only release means we get more music, that's a "win" in my view. I wonder what the comparative economics of CD releases vs. digital-only releases are.
