Yes, as with many, I am quite familiar with Doris' 1950's and 1960's output but this also is now making me seek out some of her earlier recordings of the same vintage as David linked on the previous page of this thread. For so long I've enjoyed the Doris Day/André Previn 1962 "Duet" album which contains the well known, "Close Your Eyes". I always thought that one struck a differing mood for Doris but its bouncier, jazzier sensibility, ultimately makes it a far lighter affair than the wonderfully eerie, "While The Music Plays On". Along with the band, whoever was responsible for its atmospheric arrangement should be applauded in equal measure.

Doris Day actually didn't record "Sentimental Journey" until several sessions into her tenure with Brown's Band of Renown. Anyone who is interested in this early era of her recording career (which is my favorite, though I do enjoy her later concept albums such as Day by Day and Day by Night, as well as her duet album with Andre Previn) should check out this excellent two-CD set from Collector's Choice, which includes her complete cuts with Les Brown:

Thank you very much Anton, I had read that it was the first and it appears as such in wikipedia and other mainstream encyclopedic sources but as I know learned that was not accurate. I will look further Doris Day earlier period encouraged by what I have now heard and will look up also the concept albums as well.

There is a series of now out of print CDs of his chronological recordings which contain radio transcriptions as well as commercial recordings on a label called Halycon i've seen some used on Amazon and E Bay going for ridiculous asking prices.
