Fabulous news! Hope they're complete.
Unfortunately from my perspective looks like I have all of these in one form or another. But I've already placed my order - better quality, and definitely something I want to support!
Film » The King Of Jazz » 30/6/2016 11:57 pm |
Clip of the restoration - involving Bing! The "Happy Feet" number...
My copy of King of Jazz - for comparison...

Thanks for the tip! The CD arrived at the home of one nicoley13 today.

In case you've missed it or want to pass the link along, the full documentary is now available on the PBS website-
I couldn't say for certain but unfortunately I think the video is likely not playable outside of the United States.
Others of Note » James Garner passed away » 21/7/2014 9:18 pm |
TCM's tribute:
I'm a big fan of Maverick and some of his films. No one better at playing a "James Garner" character -- a bit cowardly, possibly cynical, but you know he'll come through in the end. And above all extremely *likeable*.

If you were watching ABC TV in the US on 2 March 1959, you would have seen a youngish James Garner on the "The Bing Crosby Show for Oldsmobile".
James apparently sang "Gunslinger" solo followed by "Hooray For Love" with Jo Stafford.
I've never seen it, don't know what "Gunslinger" is and so far as I can establish that particular part of the show has never been on DVD. Others might know better, and might wish to try to find clips on such as YouTube.
I've noticed this discrepancy. In my copy Garner sings "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home" (perched on a giant wooden rocking horse), and it's a few minutes after "Hooray for Love."

Bing joined in "Hooray for Love" too.
So he did. I want to see it! It's not too far fetched that someone might have a copy!
I'll take that as my cue -- I actually almost uploaded this yesterday, and now since you mentioned it...

Nice coincidence -- I just downloaded it and remembered seeing this post a few days ago.
Others of Note » MGM Celebration » 28/11/2013 5:06 pm |
Yeah, that's not the 25th anniversary gathering - that's not the *really* famous photo I've seen tons of times. I think you're right and it's for MGM's 20th. No Clark Gable - he was serving in the military at that point too. No Judy Garland either, and probably lots of others I'm not thinking of who managed to get out of it somehow.

There have been bootleg copies of the complete show floating about for ages. You might now even be able to catch it on YouTube if you keep your eyes open before the Sinatra lawyers yank it off the web.
Haha, tell me about it. There are a few Bing/Frank videos I'd like to upload to my Bing youtube channel, but I ain't gonna risk it.
There's a beautiful quality copy of the Edsel Show on youtube, part 1 here:
Supposedly the oldest videotape recording in existence. I have a copy of the kinescope and it's not nearly as nice.
Artistic Legacy » BING named in other people's song lyrics! » 01/6/2013 10:18 pm |
Here's an old list online from the BCIM:
I remembered this thread when I was listening to a Pied Pipers song called "Goodbye Romance." Part of the lyrics are "and he yodels cowboy ditties like Der Bingle."
I have another example but my memory's murky. There's a number in the Betty Grable/Dick Haymes musical Diamond Horseshoe - must be what imdb calls "The Old and the New Prelude." Hmmm, I think I saw it on youtube at one point and I rather enjoyed the film, but I can't really be more specific.

Some pretty sweeping generalizations in that article; I'm a 26 year old female.
I gotta say...twenty-six-year-old female Bing Crosby fans are pretty much the greatest people in the world. Judging from the highly representative sample found in this thread, they comprise about one-third of Bing Crosby fans today.
Television » Bing Crosby and Perry Como » 19/5/2013 3:34 pm |
Also from Perry's show, about the most fun medley ever:
Bing and Perry sing "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from Disney's Cinderella on one of Bing's Chesterfield shows, back when Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and Arthur Godfrey (who was also on the program) were all hawking cigarettes. I should upload that bit on youtube sometime!
Film » Patty-Cake » 13/5/2013 12:32 am |
Yes, I must admit that's my youtube channel. I don't know about being "a very welcome addition to this group" though! But thanks!
P.S. Oddly enough the video I was talking about in my previous post is not on the nicoley133 channel but rather on my original non-Bing-related channel nicoley132. Just in case you're curious or something.
Film » Patty-Cake » 12/5/2013 10:42 pm |
Hey, that's neat! Wish that had been around several years ago! I was making a Bing/Bob tribute video and wanted to include some of these moments near the end. It was a bit of an effort to remember all the times the routine was used!
