Well the music on the Mosiac set was licensed from BCE/Universal, and then they inturn started to issue the current series, so there is duplication through many of the sets, with the original New Tricks and Some Fine Old Chestnuts themselves coming from these sessions. Thankfully the new editions of both these albums are augmented by lots of previously unreleased material

Bing in Dixieland (8), Bing On Broadway (2) and Bing Sings The Great American Songbook (4) are probably the sets with the most duplication, however there remains tracks on all that were not released elsewhere which I have put the quantity in brackets next to the albums above. Arguably if you bought the Mosiac set, you could download these individual tracks from Itunes or another source if you so desired. I'm old school and feel if I'm spending say £3.96 on 4 download tracks, I may as well go the whole hog and buy the CD. I did however buy these three sets prior to forking out for the Mosiac box, and I still think they are fabulous compilations/collections in their own right.  I would have to pull out my notes on Shall We Dance and With All My Heart, however I recall all of the CBS recordings that appear on these sets, also appear on the Mosiac set (with the exception of Lady In Spain - take 2 I think). 

Ultimately the Mosiac Set is a very small snapshot in a lustrous career, and if you are a fan of these recordings with  Bing, Buddy Cole and his band then there is lots to get very excited about and its worth every penny. For me this is my favourite period of Bing's career. 

 

If I were to pick 2  from your selection I would pick

Bing & Rosie: The Crosby Clooney Radio Sessions
Bing Sings the Irving Berlin Songbook

I have commented on the Berlin set previously...so you know my thoughts. 

as for the Crosby Clooney Radio Sessions. This is an exhilarating set. My favourite set by the duo (I know!!), with far too many highlights to mention. Some 61 tracks (with a few duplication in takes). The more intimate setting of the small band recordings works perfectly, and the occasional studio fluff adds to the ambiance

So Rare is the perfect companion to Among My Souvenirs, which you already have and has much strong previously unreleased material on it and makes a close third for me,

Shall We Dance & With All My Heart are digital only collections. They contain some duplication with other sets and some rare bits. No longer available outwith the USA I believe. 

Can't comment on Bing Crosby & Rosemary Clooney: The New Recording as I don't have this. Didn't pick it up when it came out and the CD is now quite pricey in the UK

Not sure how much you have to spend, and I am going to assume you don't have the Mosiac box set -which is currently back in print and worth every penny- however assuming you don't want to stretch that far, the two sets I play a lot is Bing On Broadway and Bing In Dixieland (just to add to your confusion).

Regardless which sets you buy they are all full of great quality recordings and great notes. Good shopping. 



 

Oh......Le Bing!!!......good call.....one of my favourites... such an unusual one in the Bing catalogue....being sung in French and all....Tu Ne Peux Pas Te Figurer is simply magnificant.

You've  got a good amount of quality Bing to listen to though....these are all excellent (read critical) sets...should get you through the dark winter nights......the two new sets New Tricks and Among My Souviners are on constatnt rotation in my car currently.

To help with some context; of the songbooks (Sinatra, Mercer, Berlin ) the Berlin one is my favourite. I found the Sinatra one an oddball, because most of these songs are so strongly associated with Sinatra, and when i'm in the mood for listening to these songs, I must admit I pick out the Sinatra albums first...so its one I maybe need to listen to more, and your mentioning of it may push me to do so. The Mercer set is fantastic (P.S I Love You 1953 is another of my favourites), but I prefer Berlin as a songwriter. 

Linking both Berlin and Sinatra.....Sinatra's All Alone album is one of my favorite of his albums and contains 4 amazing renditions of Berlin songs also...All Alone, What'll I Do, Remember & The Song Is Ended. If you not familar with it, its a great album........although buy Bing first!!!

Doesn't spoil the album thankfully...only a couple of seconds at the end of the track. I always try and give my first listen to Bing albums with headphones on....so undoubtedly you pick up things you wouldn't normally catch.

Other than that the set is fabulous. Always loved Gigi, however don't think I have heard All The Time or Allegheny Moon before and they are the standouts currently.

On the origional album it was always great to see Bing pay homage to Al Jolson on a couple of tracks. The Bing Crosby meets Al Jolson Sepia set if probably one of my favourite albums of all time given my love of Jolson also.

It would be interesting to see if the tracklist of the CD is the same as the digital download.

There were 13 songs recorded for this album, but they never all seem to appear at the same time.

The original album and the digital version of this misses the track Where The Rainbow Ends.

I have a Lazerlight version (A Visit To The Movies) that includes that track but loses I Call You Sunshine

And I may stand corrected, but I'm not sure the track Thats All I Want From You from the same sessions has not appeared on any version yet, although he had previously recorded it for CBS on March 2 1955 ( and is on Mosiac Box set). Maybe someone could clarify??

No suprise....no UK release.....purchased through Amazon third party again....might get in time for Christmas!!!

Great cover for Among My Souvenirs!!

I was hoping for at least a Deluxe Edition of Bing: A Musical Anthology before they abandoned the 50's. I have it numerous times but a new edition would sit well on the shelf amongst the other new additions.

But as the 50's studio output was covered so recently in the Through The Years series, maybe they are thinking better to reissue less available material for better sales, and therefore the 60's is the place to tap.

Of course speculation is fine but going by recent release schedules for these releases we do potentially have another 14 months to wait on any future output beyond the current two.

Were you just teasing us before Paul??? Or purposely lowering our expectations to make the news sound even better???

Brilliant news for both releases.

He'll never truly ever be forgotten whilst theres still a Christmas, but unfortunately for the vast majority this is the only exposure they have had of Bing. 

Although same can be said for Roy Wood, and he's still with us!!!!

Hard to grumble though....we have had quite a number of releases over the past decade, but theres always room for more!!

"Seasons" though. Away now to pop that on the CD player
