Phil Crosby - Little By Little

Phil Crosby, Bing's son, recorded this cute song for Reprise in October of 1963...

Re: Phil Crosby - Little By Little

I met Phil when he came to Sydney around 1965 and performed at the Hilton Hotel.
I rang Phil and we met at his hotel for a beer. I gave him a book on Australiana put out by Aussie Oil Company - Ampol, for whom I was working at the time.
He was a nice bloke and we chatted for about 45 minutes. I never got to see him perform.
Gary had visited Sydney with Louis Armstrong and I saw him at the old Sydney Stadium.
Sat in the cheap 50cent bleachers.

It’s nice and Phil had a good voice. Must have been hard to live in the shadow of his dad. Would have been an asset on one hand but a burden on the other always being compared but never coming close.

It's great to see how all 7 of Bing's children can sing. Thats one of Philip's finest recordings he inherited a portion of his father talent! Thanks for uploading it.

I don't feel that his second family could sing much.

Re: Phil Crosby - Little By Little

Bing married two women with fine singing voices, Dixie Lee was a professional singer and Kathryn Grant was also a singer with a wonderful soft, warm and gentle singing voice that she demonstrated on radio, television, films and live performances. It is only natural that the kids inherited some of that talent. I do not think that all of the seven children had professional voices, but they had an above the average vocal quality the first four show it on their professional life and the second three on all those Christmas shows, in London Palladium etc. I would say that they could carry a tune nicely even though they didn't pursuit a professional singing career and they excelled in diferent fields.

Re: Phil Crosby - Little By Little

When Phillip came to Australia in 1965, the Sydney newspaper The Sun-Herald gave special attention to his visit. The Chevron Hotel's advertisement introduced him a 'one of the Crosby boys' and printed an article headlined 'Being Bing's son only opens the door', describing his career and interest in football. Gary had performed here in 1956 on the same bill as Louis Armstrong. The promoter's right-hand-man later wrote a book on the local music business and alleged that Gary demanded top billing because Louis was a coloured performer. That request was refused. He described Gary's performance as 'pleasant and adequate'.
