Just read interesting article and the interview with Bing (haven’t magazine with me and forget the bloke’s name) and asked about a new Road film - the fountain of youth. Dorothy was mentioned and Bing said that we had to have Dorothy in the new film.
I seem to recall that Bing thought her too old for the Hong Kong film and that is why they brought in Joan Collins, because she was ‘younger’.
I did mention previously about Joan when I worked at the Midland Hotel, Manchester. She arrived a few days after Sophia Loren.
At lunch Joan wanted to know where all the men were. At dinner time they turned up like bees around a honey pot.

The Road to the Fountain of Youth would have be a masterpiece not doubt. I have met too Joan Collins on a summer in Hydra Island she is a very enchanting lady.
The movie was in pre-production at the time of Bing’s death. If Bing had lived only one year more, we would have a new road film and a couple of more Ken Barnes album-at least.
There was a lot of talk for many road movies that they were never made. After Road to Hong Kong they decided to make a Road to Bombay on location in India using some tax benefits but that never happened. For several years Bing and Bob though to make another Road picture sometimes mentioned as the Road to Tomorrow, if I am not mistaken Dorothy Lamour was the one that didn’t fully cooperate perhaps holding some grudge on their decision to demote her on Road to Hong Kong.
In 1977 Sir Lew Grade was charged with the production of the 8th road picture The Road to the Fountain of Youth for which Melville Shavelson had write a completed script.
Bob Hope considered the option to make the movie without Bing with George Burns as his co-sta. But for unknown reasons that didn’t happen.
The script of that picture though must be somewhere probably getting dust on some storage space. It would be a treasure to see it-if ever discovered.

If you go to YouTube there is a 36 second interview on this subject.
If this link doesn't work the title is Bing Crosby On the Road to the Fountain of Youth.

Very nice clip, he seems to know exactly what he wanted. The movie must have been very close to main shooting when Bing died three weeks later. Bing had the ability to always keep up with each era, he didn't try to understand the audience, he was one of the people and never forget it, he was always enjoying other artists work and was trying to make the best out of every project he ever did. Not doupt the movie would have been a great succes. The synopsis also would be interesting to be discovered one day.

I also remember reading somewhere that The Road to the Moon was an early concept of Road to Hong Kong with Marilyn Monroe for the female lead.

I see to remember treading at the time that it was scheduled to be shown on television hat David Niven's last film "Better Late Than Never" in which had also starred Maggie Smith and Art Carney was intended originally to have starred Bing and Bop Hope but after the tragic event in Madrid was later made starring David Niven and Art Carney in their roles if that was really the case then there seemed to be some sort of a jinx with the film as David Niven was already suffering from Motor Nurone Disease the director Bryan Forbes had to redub parts of the voice track as David Niven's speech was becoming inaudible to pick up i remember watching an edition of "Parkinson" and he sounded very hoarse you could see and hear something wasn't right.

Road to Paris, Road to Calcuta, Road to Tomorrow, Road to the Moon, Road To Christmas, Road to the Fountain of Youth, it is very sad that all those movies weren't made.

What a breathtaking list of unmade projects that would be wonderful to see. It is sad that Bing didn't made any more movies, not that we have any right to complain he made 70 pictures, but he was a great actor and able to do a lot of things on screen, I believe that he prioritize the musical side of his career which is understandable but he could have made even more movies specially in 1960s and 1970s when he had the time to spare, reading Day By Day you can understand that It would have been almost impossible to made more movies in the 1940s or late 30s when he was making three movies per year, a weekly radio show, recordings and so much more. But we will always wish to see more. I was unaware of this list. Most impressive!

Almost painful to read these - so many great potential projects. I find myself particularly sad Bing didn't do more ambitious work in the 1960s, since he was still in great voice.

I agree Bing was still a great actor and singer in 1960s, he have done a lot of interesting project during that decade but he could have done much more specially later in that decade.
