LOL! I have been playing around with a playlist all day today! I have not managed to get down to 12 tracks yet but I started with something like 46 songs!

I treated this like it would be a 3rd Decca release of CBS recordings, so I didn't use a song if it appeared on "Some Fine Old Chestnuts" or "New Tricks"

What I came up with:

1. But Not For Me
2. If I Gave My Heart to You
3. Once in a While
4. I'll Guess I'll Have to Change My Plan
5. Don't Take Your Love from Me
6. Try a Little Tenderness
7. What is There to Say
8. My Ideal
9. I'm Yours
10. All Through the Night
11. Someone You Love
12. She's Funny that Way
13. No, Not Much
14. If You Can Dream
15. Little Man, You've Had a Busy Day

I see, that we hit on some of the same songs! Like I said, I haven't been able to pair this down to 12 songs, though technically you could squeeze all 15 tracks on an album

I made that playlist a few years back and while I did have the Mosiac set, I limited myself to what was on streaming which made it easier to get down to 12 songs, now with the influx of more Buddy Cole tracks streaming it would be much harder to whittle it down!

I’ve done that before, haha! Dream with Dean is a favorite of mine and it made me jump and make this playlist;

1. I’m Confessin’
2. Gigi
3. More Than You Know
4. Cocktails For Two
5. You’ll Never Know
6. It’s Not For Me To Say
7. I Guess I’ll Have To Change My Plan
8. What Is There To Say
9. The Nearness Of You
10. But Not For Me
11. My Heart Stood Still
12. All Through The Night

It wouldn't surprise me if some of those mentioned recordings are being saved for another release. I think the main issue with Just What I Wanted For Christmas is that I believe it is the original Columbia mono mix, which, like a lot of mono mixes from them around that time, is somewhat muddy. The track was released in true stereo on some obscure LP a long while ago, so maybe the stereo tapes are still out there and it could be remixed. Similarly hopefully the stereo tapes of "The Secret Of Christmas" from the same session could get a remix and master for release.

I am also somewhat disappointed by this release as far as new material, however I don't view it too negatively because for non-devoted fans, this will probably seem pretty fresh for release. It's the first time most of these have gotten official streaming releases as well. Maybe some day we can get a reissue of "The Crosby Christmas Sessions"; the one archive release that never got that luxury under UMe.

Oh that one is a favorite of mine, a very nice Billy May arrangement.

Yes, "It's Christmas" was featured on the 1959 and 1960 editions of the Christmas Sing. Here's an upload of it from YouTube; https://youtu.be/qRlpgV05VKc?si=UX3LjwzL6dS1woHm

I don't have a version that's anything longer than a minute sadly, he seemed to like to include it in carol medleys, but not actually make a full version...

One song that finally got a full version because of Christmas Sing With Bing was Good King Wenceslas, which I am thankful for!

I believe she is doing okay, but stays mostly at home now taking it easy. I don't remember where I got this information from, so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm not the biggest fan of AI, but it would be interesting to see. To be honest, I would be interested to see someone who has really studied the Crosby style and can somewhat replicate it do a cover of a song Bing never sang, then use that recording as a base for the AI models. Someone has done this with Sammy Davis Jr., making a cover of Mack the Knife in the closest approximation to Sammy's style that he could muster, then use the AI model to put Sammy's voice over it.

Sure it may not be the same as an actual recording, but it is a lot more convincing than most AI covers.

Not through the ICC, you kind of have to search online until you find a copy sadly.

They said in the press release for that “Christmas Gems” album that they would dig into the Christmas specials for music videos as well, so even if we have a hiatus of regular music videos, we’ll still likely have Christmas ones coming out.

That was an early track listing, two of the songs aren't in the final release (Christmas Candles and It's Christmas Time Again). However, most of the songs come from Bing's radio archives from Kraft, Chesterfield, and the Christmas Sing With Bing shows. Christmas Island and Little Drummer Boy come from TV tracks. There are a few obscure singles in this collection too. The Archives released a good bunch of this material before in a budget CD, but it was never put on streaming and this is the first time a lot of this material has received wide releases not counting some of their original appearances on LPs and singles.

Primary Wave in conjunction with Bing’s estate is releasing a new Christmas compilation, with limited edition vinyl for Record Store Day and a wide CD release.

1. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!
2. Just What I Wanted For Christmas
3. O, Little Town Of Bethlehem
4. How Lovely Is Christmas
5. Away In A Manger (with Kathryn Crosby)
6. Good King Wenceslas
7. It’s Christmas Time Again
8. Joy To The World
9. Christmas Island (with Kathryn Crosby)
10. The Secret Of Christmas
11. White World Of Winter
12. Christmas Candles
13. It’s A Marshmallow World (with Ella Fitzgerald)
14. Christmas Star
15. The Night Before Christmas
16. The Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth (with David Bowie)

I have a feeling I know a lot of the sources for these tracks, but there could still be surprises.

Due to copyright, unlikely. It’s not impossible but I also find it doubtful that this would be attempted.

For the past few weeks the Bing Crosby YouTube channel has been uploading music videos of Bing’s TV special performances, and certainly there are more of these videos to come, but here are the first three.

New and Re-issued materials » Two releases from Primary Wave and a release from RCA » 17/7/2023 6:29 am

I believe these compilations to be a hold over until the next release, as this last week we heard of a new Estate partnership for merchandise, no new audio but it’s nice to see, and most of these came out within a 3 day period. I believe this due to the amount of the material that we know has been remastered already and just awaiting release, these remasters ranging from live shows, radio, and private recordings. Keep in mind too that on Friday they released “Ol’ Man River” from Bing’s 1959 TV special as an official music video, maybe we can look forward to something with that next month? I’m very easily being over-hopeful, but it doesn’t seem the most out of the question. I think what we’ve been seeing so far is easily marketable and easily produced content that doesn’t go too far into the vault, maybe to save the vault exploration for a more substantial CD release? Hopefulness again I know, but they built up that Crosby Archives series for so long that it wouldn’t be the most out of question.

I’m just trying not to give up hope yet when most of the material on both the Irish Songbook and the Ella album were newly released or remastered material, those were two solid releases. Valentine From Bing and At the Movies were heavy rehashes, unless you had the Mosiac box, but the movies released had one newly released track that hasn’t been previously available to my knowledge, and one newly remastered General Electric track.

I sound like I’m trying to make excuses, which I partially am to keep my hope as much as possible, but I do think it’s realistic to see newly released sometime in the near future. Time will tell with whatever happens…

Nothing new at all, which explains the lack of announcement for its release. However it gives me hope that we will be getting a more substantial release next month, but we’ll see.

New and Re-issued materials » Two releases from Primary Wave and a release from RCA » 09/7/2023 12:46 am

I was checking Bing’s monthly listeners on Spotify and spotted 3 “new” releases. RCA released the How The West Was Won album in full, which is certainly nice to have on streaming, while Primary Wave released two compilations of love songs, made up entirely of songs from the Bing Crosby Archive series of releases. All three releases are 30+ songs so, while it is material Bing fans have had readily at their fingertips before, it is interesting to say the least.

It’s from Bing’s Buenos Aires interview from 1970, most of the show has been released before, except for Raindrops.

New and Re-issued materials » New 'Bing at the Movies - Vol. 1' release coming next week » 03/6/2023 6:17 am

Another Mosiac set rehash, but they’re tracks that deserve a home on streaming so I can’t complain. The few “new” tracks are Raindrops Keeping Falling On My Head, which is really nice to have, and In the Good Old Summertime, which while it has been released officially on CD, this sounds like it’s from the master tapes.

It’s similarly present on the LPs, and while in my eyes it could use to be a lot less, it’s much better than the dryness present on the Feels Good, Feels Right LP.
