I have the whole series on tape (back in Aus!) that a friend of mine had made for me. He worked for the ABC.
I have often thought about writing to the BBC to see if they planned to put the whole show on CD.
Perhaps Malcolm may have approached the BBC about this or maybe he might do so.

They should play more Bing.  They have his initials in their name!

The passing of time and those singers, actors etc that we all grew up with have just about all but died or retired from the public.
My wife's 2nd. daughter turns 50 this year (9/11) and last year I mentioned Vic Damone and she hadn't heard of him. She knows of Bing because of me, Then again I don't know any of the current 'so called 'stars'' in film or record. So singers like Peter Dawson, Richard Tauber and Richard Crooks, Dick Haymes, Sarah Vaughan, Della Reese etc don't stand a chance of being remembered.

Pushing 60, I certainly remember Vic Damone, though I don't find him as memorable as Bing.  Unfortunately, Vic merges into Jack Jones and some other singers popular at that time...my progressively dimming brain cells have trouble distinguishing them, their songs, and their styles apart.  Vic, you're a blur to me now.  I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.

Not long ago I saw Vic having lunch with Regis Philbin at Cravings on the Sunset Strip. He looked fine and is aging well.

- - -and now part 10 - Bing the Business Man,  cracking jokes about Bob Hope's immense comparative wealth and singing 'I Haven't Time To Be A Millionaire'. 


Some new video on the same site - in this case an interview with Ed Murrow Dec 3rd 1954.

Part 12 now posted - Bing the recording star, complete with some sales statistics - which presumably are now a little out-dated by the passage of 38 years since the programmes were recorded.

Part 14 -  'Prelude to Immortality' has now been posted. 

This was the final part of the original series, but personally I very much hope that the later extended and amended couple of episodes broadcast after Bing's death might also be added.

Something might be happening to my internet connection, but the audio quality as received by me of this part is not as good as the earlier episodes. What is the experience of others?
