I remember the night it was broadcast on the 10.00pm TV news. I was living in Reading at the time and had been at The Palladium the previous Saturday night for his final London performance. (The likes of Ronnie Barker and Henry Cooper) were a few rows behind me.
Confusion reigned for a while about his birthday being 1904 and not 1903.
It some cases it is still shown as 1904 after all these years.
Thanks for pointing out those clips.

Prompted by this thread Ron Field has sent me links to photos of the grave.
All show 1904 as birth year.

I wish I knew. It was from an old cassette tape I had!

That’s cool, I tried looking online and I couldn’t find anything.

At first I thought it may have been Harry but soon dismissed that.
So, could it be Chris Crosby or maybe Rich Little?

The 14th. October death date is increasing with two last week of known identities.
Now it is Errol Flynn, Bing, former NZ cricketer John Reid and Rhonda Fleming.

I've just read in Leonard Bernstein's daughter's memoir of her late father, that Lennie also died on the fourteenth of October (1990 in his case). Another irreplaceable twentieth century musical colossus gathered on that dreadful date.
