Re: Those were the days: Spotlight on Bing

Frans, that is a really great find, because on the same site, in the Archives section there are many more radio shows which feature Bing either as guest or host.

Use the search function of your browser. Mine produces 91 mentions, though some of these are several instances within one show and some shows are repeated.

Among those with Bing that I noted are
MAXWELL HOUSE COFFEE TIME (12-4-47)
COMMAND PERFORMANCE (2-15-45) “Dick Tracy in B Flat” (though it appears three times)
MAIL CALL (1944)
FRED ALLEN SHOW (5-11-47)
SCREEN GUILD THEATRE (10-16-47) “Bells of St. Mary’s”
PHILCO RADIO TIME (1-29-47)
AMOS ‘N’ ANDY (2-14-54)
V-J DAY PROGRAM (9-2-45)
COMMAND PERFORMANCE, USA (1945)
PHILCO RADIO TIME (11-27-46)
SCREEN GUILD THEATRE (1-11-43) “Holiday Inn”
PHILCO RADIO TIME (1-1-47)
PHILCO RADIO TIME    ( 1-26-49 )
a 1940s GI Journal

COMMAND PERFORMANCE (6-29-44)
CHESTERFIELD SHOW (11-14-51)
KRAFT MUSIC HALL (1-29-42)
etc.
Some of the items are excerpts, not complete shows.

Re: Those were the days: Spotlight on Bing

Yes, you're right, Richard! I have been browsing this afternoon; there's an amazing amount of material there.

Besides the already mentioned special 'Spotlight on Bing', there's another special named 'Bing Crosby and his first family', with over 4 hours of performances of Bing together with Dixie and their children. It's the first time I have seen a compilation like this.

Besides these programmes, there are many specials to be found. Like one on Perry Como, on George Gershwin and Jerome Kern, Judy Garland, Al Jolson, Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly - just to name a few!

With podcasts like these, who needs radio!

Oh, and don't miss out on my posting today in the Biography thread; more interesting Crosby-related material coming from the same source!

Re: Those were the days: Spotlight on Bing

Thank you Frans for an interesting Spotlight. I suppose these days many of us have access to historic Crosby material from radio but in 1971 it may have been quite rare.
