David Jacobs
David Jacobs, a very long time veteran of British broadcasting, died today at the age of 87. His first broadcast was in 1945, his last just a few weeks ago.
He frequently included items by Bing in his programmes and the BBC News at Ten included a round up of the highlights of his career, which had a few seconds of Bing singing in the background at the end.
Some people outside the UK might not be able to access this but for those who can, use this link to see (and hear) the BBC news item.

Was able to watch and hear here in the Pacific Northwest but really could hear what Bing was singing.

David’s last show was broadcast on August 4 and he featured Bing singing “Incurably Romantic” as his final song. He introduced this by saying that we might have noticed that he had not played a solo by Frank Sinatra during the programme and that there was a reason for this. There were, he said, two camps, one favours Frank Sinatra, the other Bing Crosby. He went on to say that he would end by playing his favourite – Bing Crosby. That was the last record David played in a career going back over 60 years!
