KMH on line

I have mentioned the Star Spangled Radio Hour here before. It covers big band material, mainly Glenn Miller, but with occasional trips in the Crosby direction.

Last Saturday, 11th May, they covered a KMH broadcast from 1945.  Following Bing there is a restored AFRS “G. I. Jive” episode with G. I. Jill (Martha Wilkerson).

In the words of "Examiner.com" (http://www.examiner.com/article/bing-crosby-s-1945-broadcast-featured-on-star-spangled-radio-hour)

Bing Crosby drops in for a visit to the “Star Spangled Radio Hour” this week with a 1945 NBC “Kraft Music Hall” broadcast. The ultimate professional approach always evident in Bing’s network broadcasts of this era is evident this week as Bing welcomes Eddie Heywood, Ella Logan and guest announcer Wendell Niles to his program. Eugenie Baird, the Charioteers, John Scott Trotter and his Orchestra are present as usual. There are some witty one-liners along the way between Bing and Wendell. Listeners might want to be ready for their comments leading into the song ”Love in Bloom” in a medley of old-time hits, where Bing breaks network and sponsor protocol by plugging another program, on another network, specifically by name, time and network, and then says “I guess I’m going to be in trouble with Chicago (Kraft)".

The show gets posted here http://www.studio1430.com/pages/6965332.php a few days after broadcast and should appear soon. Until then, listen to the show posted as being 5th May (it was actually 4th May!) with Duke Ellington, and listen carefully to the announcement at the end. What is the mistake made during the item about Bing?

No prizes!
