Movie with Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd)

I've been listening to some of the Chesterfield Radio shows from late 1949 and 1950.

Not only does Hopalong make an appearance on the show but there are several references on other shows to Bing and 'Hoppy'' making a film together.

I have found a news report -''Bing Crosby And Sons To Appear In Western With Hopalong Cassidy''
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1350&dat=19500901&id=fohOAAAAIBAJ&sjid=LwAEAAAAIBAJ&pg=3940,406167

but nothing about abandonment of such a project. Does anyone have information on this (obviously failed) plan?

Later addition. The Hedda Hopper column on page 48 is the one to search for.

The heading is ''New York - Amusements - Hollywood""

I remember there was talk of a Bing and Hoppy film but nothing came of it.
Malcolm has a photo of them together, which may have been taken in anticipation of that movie.

Re: Movie with Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd)

I remember a Hopalong Cassidy series of TV in the late 1950s.  I wonder now if that was a TV series or a replaying of Hoppie film shorts aired on TV???  In any case, it would be interesting to know if Bing made an appearance on any of those.

The fact that they talked about making a film together is interesting.  My pet/unevidenced theory is that the part of the General in White Christmas was written with him in mind.  William Boyd would have been a more natural person to evoke the affection the General does, and the General prominently walks with a limp.
