Bing-Rosemary Show, Complete Collection

The Old-Time Radio Researchers Group is a group that assembles complete runs of old radio shows, in the best possible sound, and gives them a 'certification'.  Many of their certified shows are available on www.archive.org

One of them is the Crosby-Clooney show.  I downloaded them, in 4 zipped files, and was disappointed when the I sampled the quality.  The speed is so slow that Bing & Rosie's voices are nearly unrecognizable.

Is anyone familiar with this copy of the show?  Are they available elsewhere at the proper speed?

Thanks,
Greg

***sorry in advance if this is a verboten topic.  The legality of radio show downloading is murky to me and I don't see any notes on this forum about the appropriateness of discussing the downloading of these shows.

Re: Bing-Rosemary Show, Complete Collection

Greg, the OTR files which you have discovered are indeed of poor audio quality. You mention the speed, but they are also  very compressed (or were when I first discovered them some time back, since when I have ignored them). They are certanly not of entertainment quality.

''The Home Of Bing Crosby'' has the first of the Crosby Clooney shows posted - that from 29 February 1960.
http://bingcrosby.com/bing/bing-crosby-media/audio-vault, together with other interesting items.
These are not downloadable. They are however of good audio quality and if yout internet connection is good they are well worthwhile. And dare I say it, but you can record them whilst listening.

Your request set me off on a search and I have newly discovered this site -
http://www.mediafire.com/?yd2o8911z9xgy which seems to have a lot of the Crosby radio shows, though not including the specific series which you are after.  A quick sample of one file only suggests that the quality might be a little better than the OTR site - the one file I have tested is at 128kbps, but it does not compare with the best that I have heard.

You might possibly realise that by the time of these shows the same ''library'' of pre recorded songs was being used repetitively, with new topical linking material.

The best source for information about the songs used and the content of the shows is this page from the  ''Bing'' magazine website - http://www.bingmagazine.co.uk/bingmagazine/final2.htm

Re: Bing-Rosemary Show, Complete Collection

Many of the Radio shows at the mediafire link are mp3s from cds of my collection of cds from Redmond. Don't know who would be putting better sound than Redmond of the Radio shows but I would like to hear it

Here is a link to KMH 44-06-29 with Roy Rogers

Re: Bing-Rosemary Show, Complete Collection

Mike, I've been into your post to close up some of the large gaps!

I did say that I had listened to one (only) and that the sound quality was a little better than the OTR examples. But despite that admitted improvement they cannot compare with the quality of the tracks from, for example, the General Electric shows that have been included on some of the BCE/Collector's Choice CDs nor with a very well engineered set of the Chesterfields circulated privately some years ago.

It is great to see that those tracks have been made available to those who are interested - and far better to have them in any quality at all provided it is listenable, than to have them totally lost, though I'm unsure quite what the technical situation might be relating to rights.

Re: Bing-Rosemary Show, Complete Collection

I have just downloaded the final Philco show from Mike's updates in his Philco folder and I am very pleased indeed with the quality.

Re: Bing-Rosemary Show, Complete Collection

I guess I should mention that the mediafire link above given by Richard is not my link but an otr collectors who I sent many of my files to.

It is good to know that there is some better sounding files out there. As to rights only the lawyers can answer that one. The files are there til someone tells us they can't be.

Mike, I agree wholeheartedly that this one is very good, especially compared to other examples I have heard from the era.

Our thanks are due to you for keeping these alive and available.
