Re: Bing Crosby - The War Years

This is one of my favorite periods.
Bing's voice and records here are at his prime.
The combination of Jack Kapp's strategy to make Bing the voice of America's music and the adaptability of John Scott Trotter where never better.
It is a very nice episode David!

I agree the 1940s were for me like most people Bing's best singing years his singing voice developed into a baritone which sounded resonant.

Re: Bing Crosby - The War Years

This is truly superb, David. Your choice of records and presentation is faultless. Your delivery style so reminds me of the wonderful spoken presentation quality of BBC radio of the 1970's and 1980's where I first heard Bing's records played. His voice in this decade was truly special, wasn't it?

I couldn't agree with you more, Stepo. Also, the breadth of Bing's range and note sustainability was glorious. This was such an active and prolific period for Bing - did you have any difficulties in deciding what to include, David? "San Fernando Valley" was my favourite of your choices, here. I love Bing's laid back delivery and the backing's underlying rhythm.
