Does anyone know if there are any plans to celebrate Bing's 100th anniversary in recording next year?
It would be great to have some remastered albums, perhaps some that have never had a CD release, rarities or similar.
It would also be great to see more of Bing's movies on Blu-Ray, and ideally region free or also on region b as many are for the US market only.
Thanks! ![]()

The ICC will be celebrating 90 years too so it would make sense to have a 2-CD set to commemorate both anniversaries. We are talking to Sepia Records at the moment. However CDs are going out of favour so we make have to consider sponsoring the issue in some way. We are thinking of using radio tracks that have not been on CD or only on CD in the last century.

Thanks Malcolm. That would be a great idea. I'd argue that CDs remain popular, especially with what are now termed 'legacy' artists, but I get your point. Streaming is another option, too.
Any news from Bing's estate about the anniversary yet?

ICC 90 years is really a big anniversary, we are the only fan club in the world that it is 89 and soon 90 years old. Another Crosby record that is a nice angle for the anniversary. Bing has the oldest surviving fan club in the world.
I think that the recent celebrations in Spokane had something to do with the anniversary.

It really is one sizeable achievement that the ICC is still here after all this time. So many living links with Bing have now departed that it's just so fitting that there are still people among us who are so willing to practically mark Bing's recording centenary. I first heard his first ever recording "I've Got The Gal" in its entirety only just a few weeks ago and was most surprised at how clear today's technology was able to bring those near century away voices so near, again.
I doubt, despite the spirited playing and singing of all those playing on that seminal day in 1926, that anyone could have predicted the worldwide, stratospheric career heights one of their number would soon achieve.
Also, the just as impressive influence Bing had and continues to have on popular culture.
Many of the younger recording singers now performing may only just be familiar at best with "White Christmas" but just by them exercising their craft, the importance of our man's historical place in microphone recorded artistry remains assured.

Well said! Cultural significance is not measured only by collective memory, the pioneering style of Bing as a singer can influenced all that followed him and he also created the taped shows, initiating canned laugther and editing in 1946. Every taped show in TV or in radio owes something to Bing.
