Very sad news.
One of my most treasured memories is of having had the privilege of working alongside Dame Vera - in a minor capacity, but directly alongside her nevertheless! - in the 1990 Royal Variety Show at The London Palladium. The show was in celebration of the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, and Dame Vera sang an extended selection of her WWII hits interspersed with the wartime speeches of Winston Churchill delivered by the actor Robert Hardy.
She will be sadly missed...
Bing appeared on BBC2’s “The Vera Lynn Show” while he was in the UK in 1975, recording their session on 27th July for broadcast on 24th September. They sang “Sing” together and Bing sang, “That’s What Life Is All About”.

I'm afraid I can't put up a clip of Jeremy singing along with Vera, but here is Bing with her, as Jeremy says, broadcast in UK 24 September 1975. A towering figure in British hearts for many years, and she remained active, with appearances at national occasions until very recently. A very long life and a very long life in entertainment as well.

Another one from our growing up days has now left us. Vera was such an inspiration during WWII, not only to the British forces but to the Commonwealth as well.
On the BBC web site there is a nice photo of her with Bing.
Guess Olivia de Havilland is one of the last now as she turns 104 on 1st. July (Canada Day).
R.I.P. Vera

As my brother said to me yesterday, Vera had always been around. Very few of us, if any, can remember a time when she wasn't famous. Lovely lady who never officially retired, and who holds a number of records in the UK for the oldest artist to have both a top 30 hit album, and a number one album.

Are you on the right of Vera (her left) in the finale?

In the United Kingdom in 1952 Vera Lynn's records actually outsold Bing's with the massive hits "Auf Wedersen Sweetheart" and "The Homing Waltz" which borrowed the melody of "The Streets Of Laredo" which Bing later recorded for the "How The West Was Won" album. Bing's biggest UK hit that year was "The Isle Of Innisfree". which was a vocal version of the theme to "The Quiet Man" film.

Prayers & inspiration helped win WWII. During the years of the blitz, my mum told me that she was always tuned in to the (radio) to hear Vera Lynn. She held my (late) mum's highest admiration. She was her very favorite female singer. She wanted to be just like her. I know a lot of her other listeners also felt the same.

In 1941, 1942 and 1944 Vera Lynn had more hit records than Bing in Australia. Her record of 'Auf Wiedersehn Sweetheart' sold more than one hundred thousand thousand copies, which was a monumental figure, not achieved by any of Bing's singles. She performed here in 1963 (but I didn't see her).

Dame Vera Lynn, along with Jo Stafford, had two of the most perfect voices of all-time.
