Hello everyone!
Although not directly related to Bing, I wanted to let you know that this morning I published a new entry in my blog on classic jazz and the crooners, The Vintage Bandstand. In this occasion, it is the first installment of a three-part interview with Philip Furia, the author of the excellent book The Poets of Tin Pan Alley. If you would like to read it, just click on the following link:
Parts 2 and 3 of the interview will be coming soon!

Thank you, Anton
Philip Furia also wrote a good book on Irving Berlin - ''Irving Berlin: A Life in Song'' a copy of which sits four feet from me as I type.

Richard,
I am glad that you enjoyed the interview. Parts 2 & 3 will be coming soon; it is Martin Luther King, Jr., Day here in the United States on Monday, so we have a long weekend, and I will have some time to put the second part together for publication.
As you say, Philip Furia wrote a very nice book on Irving Berlin, as well as a very interesting biography of Johnny Mercer, one of my all-time favorite lyricists, entitled Skylark: The Life and Times of Johnny Mercer. Although I don't have it, I know that he also published a biography of Ira Gershwin, whose title is Ira Gershwin: The Art of the Lyricist. Mr. Furia was extremely nice to me when I approached him about the interview and gave me extremely long, thoughtful answers, and that is the reason why I have had to publish the interview in three installments!

This time, Mr. Furia talks about integrated musicals, ragtime, list songs, and Cole Porter's penchant for both witty and melodramatic lyrics.
