I recently had a video clip digitized from a disc of the 1931 short film, Darn Tootin'. In the middle of the short is about a 2 1/2-minute scene of Dixie Lee Crosby signing "I Apologize." I came across this clip thanks to Dr. A. Jackson and Bryan Kendall's "Legendary Saxophonist Collection" by Keepe Publishing House, who gave me permission to share. A friend of mine pointed out that it almost sounds like she is maybe playfully poking fun at Bing's rendition with her own, or at the very least trying to imitate him. Here are both versions...enjoy and let me know what you think!

Two deaths that I feel Bing never got over was Eddie Lang and Dixie Lee.Thank you! I feel like she hasn't been treated to fairly by Hollywood and Bing historians and biographers. She was way more talented than I think most realize. I agree with you...not sure she was the Hollywood type...in that regard, she was a woman ahead of her time (not wanting to be told what to do all the time, pleasing people she didn't like, etc.). I think today, she would have been applauded for being genuine.

Today marks what would have been Dixie Lee's 112th birthday. She was born in a little town called Harriman, Tennessee, on November 4, 1909. To celebrate her....watch this little catchy dance number she did in the 1929 film, Happy Days (beware of the weird clown that comes in singing too, haha! Dixie is the one singing and dancing in the beginning of the video).

Tomorrow, November 4, 2021, is what would have been Dixie's 112th birthday if she were still alive today. To celebrate her and her memory, I just published a blog entry over at my fan site dedicated to her,
I really enjoy researching her life and career and learning more about her, which is what led me to create the fan site/blog. I feel like she has been forgotten and treated (not necessarily intentionally) as just a footnote in Bing's amazing life, story, and career. When in fact, her own life, story, and career are just as fascinating! I hope to learn and share even more with you all about this amazing woman! Happy 112th Dixie! You are celebrated and remembered!
