Stepo, I agree. He was even more irritating live. He would sing a song and then talk for an hour. Only person I did not enjoy live. And I saw many live.

Blimey, I hope he had Bing's facility with words. How was he rude to you, Carmela?

Was never much of Billy Joel fan apart from a few songs, sadly a lot of his songs tended to irritate me once heard several times on the radio.
I was introduced to Billy Joel's music, properly in the early 1990's by a relative and also my boss at the time at the nostalgia record shop where I worked. Previously, I only knew of Joel's huge hit of "Uptown Girl" but it was explained to me that he was a semi-throwback to the New York "Tin Pan Alley" period of songwriting and after hearing "Piano Man", "New York State of Mind" and "Just The Way You Are", I could relate to that. I know Sinatra did a grand swinging job of "Just The Way You Are" but are there any of his songs that anyone could imagine Bing (or indeed Louis, for that matter) recording?

"Just The Way You Are" perhaps, but not that many, i liked "Uptown girl" which was his homage to Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons.
