References to Bing in Australian media are rare so I was impressed to read in the second edition (published in 2009) of a book by Kate Darian-Smith titled ON THE HOME FRONT: MELBOURNE IN WARTIME 1939-1945 in her chapter on 'Entertainment' that 'Commercial [radio] stations played a large proportion of light dance music, jazz, swing and the songs of popular crooners like Bingb Crosby.' Ms Darian-Smith had done her research well. My own research about ten yerars ago revealed that during those war years Melbourians could hardly avoid Crosby records when they turned on their wirelss sets (as well called our radios then) ane many stations had programs whjich only played Crosby records.
