THE CHARIOTEERS

From late 1942 for several years The Charioteers appeared with Bing on The Kraft Music Hall, continuing into Philco Radio Time,

Jasmine have issued a two CD set of them containing 59 tracks. Some items appear to be taken from Bing's radio shows and there are several tracks with Bing.

Full details on Jasmine's site.

Re: THE CHARIOTEERS

I believe that Geoff Milne has put this one together.

Re: THE CHARIOTEERS

I've been playing through this issue.

Given that most of the the tracks originate from the early to mid 1940s, the sound quality is superb.

The Charioteers were of course one of the longer serving regular support groups on Bing's radio shows, covering both Kraft Music Hall and Philco.

Of the 59 tracks, 46 are from those shows, with Bing himself on

(Disc 1)

7. WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS with Bing Crosby
8. BASIN STREET BLUES with Bing Crosby
15. MOONLIGHT BAY (1944 Version) with Bing Crosby
25. IS YOU IS OR IS YOU AIN'T MA BABY? with Bing Crosby

(Disc 2)

2. SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY with Bing Crosby
5. MOONLIGHT BAY (1946 Version) with Bing Crosby

The tracks from other sources include two with Frank Sinatra and one with Pearl Bailey.

A very worthwhile addition to any collection.

Malcolm Macfarlane has noticed an error in the notes - ''Way Down Yonder In New Orleans'' is stated to be from a KMH broacast of 7th December 1943. There was not such a broadcast. The correct date, verified by comparison with other sources, is December 2nd 1943.
