Thank you too, Malcolm.
This was a lovely, relaxed interview with Bing - one that I would never have independently found.
I realise this sounds a little contradictive when we consider the amount of years (and indeed decades) which have subsequently passed but increasingly I'm finding how "modern" Bing emerges in his approach to both performance and media. There never seems to be an adopted or artificial persona, everything is presented without any false pretensions or wisecracking avoidance. When you consider Bing's influences had emerged from the pre- microphone era, it never ceases to impress me how intimate and relaxed both his performances and public persona are. His economy of expression coupled with his innate articulacy, gentle cheerfulness, wit and self depreciation made him a complete natural as an appealing interview subject.
As a fan of his for now over forty-five years, obviously I'm biased but the pleasure, entertainment and warmth I feel whenever I come across an interview of Bing's, is around the same I always derive when listening to the greatest entertainment interview subject I've ever seen which is Orson Welles, whose persona, reflections and raconteur skills always keep me riveted.
