Michael Feinstein and Bing

Crosby fans will be familiar with Michael Fenstein who has just completed a succesful tour of Australia with performances in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. He's performed here at least twice before; this time in a tribute to Frank Sinatra accompanied by a great band which, at Sydney Opera House's concert hall on 4 July, comprised 17 pieces of whom all except his pianist/musical director and drummer were local musos. His energetic performance featured songs mostly associated with 'old blue eyes' but he did mention Bing as the top singer of the 1930s and 40s. For me, the performance was somewhat marred by the flashing lights at the rear of the stage and the artificial 'smoke', surely an un-necessary distraction for the packed auditorium's mostly 40-years plus audience. Perhaps that's what people expect these days.

Re: Michael Feinstein and Bing

Michael is a huge Bing fan. I interviewed him in April in London and he recorded a message for the ICC's Leeds meeting in October. More in BING magazine due out soon.
