Thanks, Tony! Bing with a Beat has always been one of my favorite Bing Crosby albums. The arrangements are fresh, and Bing sounds like he is really enjoying himself singing with the Bob Scobey band. This is always apparent when Bing records in a Dixieland setting, as he did on this album and also in a session he cut with Buddy Cole for one of his 1950s CBS radio shows. The feel of Dixieland jazz always seems to put Bing in a good mood, which makes the final result even more enjoyable. I particularly his versions of "Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella," "Down Among the Sheltering Palms," "Dream a Little Dream of Me," and "Along the Way to Waikiki." Bing with a Beat is, undoubtedly, an album that deserves the be treasured as one of the most satisfying in Bing's fantastic recording career, and I have always wished that he had recorded more albums in this kind of jazzy, small-group setting.
