BMG acquires music rights
It has been announced - see news item here - that BMG (formerly Bertelsmann Music Group) have acquired Verse Music Group of New York.
It is stated that included in the deal are the rights to "Golden" records who issued the sequence of children's records recorded by Bing around 1957.
These included "Jack B. Nimble (A Mother Goose Fantasy)", "A Christmas Story" , "Never Be Afraid" - a musical version of "The Emperor's New Clothes", and "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves".
The report specifically mentions Bing but I wonder, as I had the impression that Bing usually ensured that long term, rights would revert back to him, only leasing them for an initial period to the issuing labels.
In some jurisdictions the rights have expired and Sepia and Shout! Factory have issued some of the material in recent years.
