Great topic!

One of my favorite "Blue" recordings is Blue & Broken Hearted that Bing recorded with Eddie Condon & His Orchestra. I think it's often overlooked too.

A very good profile of Buddy Clark, who is also one of my favorite male singers of that era, along with Dick Haymes and a few others. I don't know if you've come across this piece that I wrote about Buddy years ago:

I love your Vintage Bandstand blog. I think I have it linked to my blog, and your story on Buddy Clark as always is great. You haven't updated your blog for awhile. Are you done working on that? I started my blog in 2010, and still post new things on it, but the traffic doesn't go there as much as it used to. Although my Bing Crosby blog last month got more views than it ever had before!

I do thing it is the begining of Bing's most significant chapter as a singer.
So many great gems!
Thank you for putting this together, it was very exciting to listen to it.

I always thought that Bing's first Decca record was Just a Wearying for You, but I Love You Truly is a wonderful song, Bing loved this recording, he sung it to his good friend Bill Morrow and Mary Henderson the day the got married in 1955. Morrow was perhaps Bing's best friend in the 1950s.

I wasn't sure either but I referred to the discography whic shows I Love You Truly first,

Thanks for the Buddy Clark tribute,  i enjoyed it if it wasn't for you and other people like the late Frank Skerrett , there's a danger that Buddy Clark would have  been  forgotten today.

Another completely forgotten crooner is Dick Todd. I am working on a tribute to him as well.

I bought three Buddy Clark CDs on E Bay about three years ago,  a very good singer who died tragically young , up there with Bing, Dick Haymes, Perry Como, Billy Eckstine, Vic Damone, Tony Martin and Frank Sinatra.,I first became familiar with him when the late Frank Skerrett a radio presenter on Radio Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland had often played his records on his show he hosted from 1974 until his death in 1992 otherwise i probably wouldn't have known his music as his recordings were only available on imports.. Jerry Vale recorded a tribute album "I Remember Buddy in 1958. Frank Skerrett also hosted one hour special playing his music sometime back in 1986.

For years now Buddy Clark has been my second favorite singer after Bing.

You both are too kind. I have never liked my voice personally but I do a lot of talking, LOL. I cut off maybe a second or two from Learn To Croon and I didn't notice it until it was done. I think a lot of Bing's pre Decca output is forgotten today.

Books » Bob Hope Biography by Richard Zoglin » 28/2/2026 11:32 am

I feel that Bing and Bob's personality were just too different to be close friends. They respected each other, but like people posted before they did not hang out every Sunday. A lot of books, especially after Bing and Bob both died took things said out of context to sell books.

I'll have to look it up but I don't think Doris Day's first recording was Sentimental Journey. I think she recorded some earlier stuff with Les Brown but she never made a record with Bob Crosby unfortunately.

My favorite record thst Doris Day made with Les Brown was "While The Music Plays On". It is haunting...
