Paul: Thank you so much for finding and sharing that excellent review though I disagree with him on one point - 736 pages is not too long when Gary Giddins is the biographer and Bing Crosby is the subject! Can't wait for October 30th!!!

Hello Malcolm! these books look like cheap knock off junk! Nothing like the gorgeously researched book that is yours. I randomly open a page to your book and just read a page or two almost every single day as a way to relax and get transported back to a simplier and more classy time. Thanks again for your book!

On the women's side Barbara Streisand and Cher are two examples of people who were successful in several different mediums.

You are correct about Elvis, also Frank Sinatra was a major star on radio, movies, tv, as well as his recording career. Another name is Glen Campbell. His was a major recording star, had his Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour tv show, was in some pretty good movies as well like "True Grit".

I've been listening to the Command Performances lately while I nod off in bed at night, it's amazing how many Bing hosted! That man was a ball of cool, composed energy! Between those show, his own radio shows, his movies ...wow! The ones where he is teamed up with Hope are gold, the ones with Sinatra or Judy Garland or his buddy Gary Cooper are really entertaining as well.

Morocco is prob the best, but I have a special place in my heart for Singapore because they are such best friends in it and I always have a soft spot for a bromance. I love how they fight for each other against the men who are trying to get Bob to marry Cherry, or against Anthony Quinn or the snobs on the boat. And they were so young! But here's my order:
Singapore/Morrocco (tie)
Zanzibar
Rio
Utopia
Bali
(I'm not even going to list Hong Kong)

Thank you so much for letting me join your merry and knowledgable group. I have been fascinated with our boy Bing -along with Errol Flynn, Betty Hutton, John Wayne and others - for sometime now. I even gave a talk at the Bing symposium on Long Island many years back (regarding his Box Office dominance). It was there that I met and spoke with Mr. Giddins for a spell. The announcement of his Vol 2 is what brought me out of the woodwork. I find I am constantly singing or at least humming Bing's songs throughout the day as my children will attest - sometimes grumbly!

I could not be more excited for this book! What amazing and rich years to be covered. I hope Mr. Giddins writes extensively about Joan Caulfield, his great friendship with Phil Harris, the amazing box office as well as recording performance especially in 1944 when I believe he had something like 2/3 of the time spent at 1# on the charts, along with his tireless efforts for the GI's. I hope this comes out sooner than the Fall but after over a decade and a half of waiting I guess I can go a few more months.
