Amazon is showing the pre-order price of $179.99 USD. I'd order it (or ask for it for Christmas as it comes out in November), but unfortunately I think I own all of the movies it contains. I second the sentiment of wishing they'd chosen to release some previoulys unavailable titles as well.

As much as I adore Kevin Spacey and think he's a wonderful actor (one of my all time favorites), I just can't see him playing Bing at all. I did however love him as Bobby Darin in Beyond the Sea. Not sure who I could see playing Bing, though.

There's a pretty popular remix of "Happy Holidays" that I tend to hear a lot in the mall around Christmas time; my guess is that's it. Here it is on Youtube:

Some pretty sweeping generalizations in that article; I'm a 26 year old female.

I can never decide on what my favorite Road movie is; my rankings change all the time. I always have Hong Kong firmly in last place though, as seems to be the general consensus.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't happen to see any such label on that link.

Regardless, I've seen this same situation on many occasions on sites like Amazon and on iTunes where songs and albums are labeled as explicit when they are actually anything but. I have no idea why this happens (and I've seen it on MANY an occasion, for artists like Bing, Sinatra, Bobby Darin, etc.) As a matter of fact, just the other day on Spotify I came across a few versions of "Loch Lomond" that were labeled as explicit. Loch Lomond? Explicit? Are you kidding me?

I usually just roll my eyes when I see those labels next to songs and albums online. Bing was most definitely NOT a precursor to 2 Live Crew.

I have to agree that Paul's voice has not aged well. However, while his voice may have deteriorated over the years and perhaps the album suffers because of it, I still applaud his effort. McCartney is one of the most influential musicians in the history of rock and I think it's a rather amazing statement that someone of his background is paying tribute to the songs of the era that came before him, music that when The Beatles first rose to prominence was being labeled by some as passe.

I personally think that almost anything the brings more attention to the music of Bing and his contemporaries is a good thing. It shows that this genre of music hasn't slipped from the public consciousness and that there is indeed still an audience and appreciation for it.

It's one of IMDB's message boards, you have to reply to the original message with your top three. To see everyone else's comments without clicking on each individual message you have to change your view at the top by either clicking "flat" or "nest."

I see them all up there now, if you sort the albums by release date they should show up much more easily.

While I highly doubt BCE/HLC will only be issuing new releases in a digital format, I think we can expect several other future digital releases. True, the music market is trending more toward digital albums rather than CDs these days, but there is still a sizable market of CD consumers. I have to agree with Jarbie that it is probably much more cost effective for companies to release music digitally than to go through the production and labor costs of issuing a CD.

I too prefer buying CDs, if only to have a tangible copy of the music that I purchased. It's also nice to have liner notes to read and in the case that something happens to my computer or iPod, CDs serve as a nice back up. I have purchased some music digitally and it just doesn't quire compare to buying a CD. However, I listen to most of my music on my iPod (and am actually doing so as I type this). It's nice to have my music library all in one place where if I want to listen to songs from various albums all it takes are a few simple clicks on my iPod's click wheel.

Though, we have to remember that Bing was on the forefront of many new technologies during his lifetime and I would imagine he would, if not heartily embrace, at least have no objections to digital media.

Anthony Hopkins has a nice reminiscence about Bing in this article that I found:

He only mentions Bing at the beginning of the article, but it's a nice little story.

Bewildering? I find it infuriating. And actually, in the NPR article it is a Library of Congress employee who makes that statement. I'll stop myself before unleashing a string of expletives about what I think the he has in place of a brain.

Also, according to the NY Times article, Decca/UMG still retains the rights to the material despite the handover of the masters: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/10/arts/music/10masters.html?_r=1&src=twrhp

I came across this article which also had a lot of erroneous information: http://www.independentmail.com/news/2010/dec/24/my-southern-perspective-always-dreaming-white-chri/

The author claims that "White Christmas" didn't come into public consciousness until Bing sang it in 1954 in the movie of the same name, and that Bing initially refused to sing it in the film, going so far as to storm off set for two days until he finally caved in otherwise. I have no idea where this information was gathered from, as the author was obviously unaware of the huge success of "White Christmas" in Holiday Inn, not to mention the Academy Award it had won.

I wasn't able to find contact information for the author, but sent an e-mail to the webmaster correcting these and other points. Doesn't anyone fact check anymore?
