White Christmas makes the Top 40 for the first time since 1962

Streaming is catching on big, and what people were streaming big time this December was classic Christmas songs.  "Billboard" apparently has no rule currently that prevents catalog titles from gathering streaming points (which make up the bulk of the Hot 100 these days), so tons of classic Christmas tunes charted on the Billboard Hot 100 this year, among them "White Christmas" (all Crosby versions combined) peaking at #34.

Among these new Christmas pop charters are first-time Top Ten positions for Andy Williams' "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," Bobby Helms's "Jingle Bell Rock," Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," and Burl Ives' "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas."

Read about it in "Billboard" at the link below:

Fascinating. Thank you, Brian.

It's great to see so many "greats" of the past still up there (and in some cases re-emerging after some years), the likes of Burl Ives, Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, Gene Autry (twice!), Dean Martin, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and Elvis, as well as Bing, and it becomes especially interesting that it is through the new medium of streaming, of which they could not even begin to imagine.

In fact the Christmas titles seem to be dominated by stars of yesteryear, even such as Brenda Lee with her 1950s "Rockin'  Around The Christmas Tree".

Christmas seems to bring out a strong nostalgic streak. Perhaps the ready availability of a wide range of titles on the streaming platforms assists.

I love saying to young people when Bing's "White Christmas" is playing, "Did you know this guy was a bigger star in the 20th century than anyone comparable today?".  They look at me, ask me what I mean, and I tell them.  It all starts with "White Christmas" though.

Anniversary Day today of Bing recording White Christmas.
(Also, an uncle of mine was born this day 1912 and Bob Hope 1903)

Biggest selling record of all time. And still the best Christmas record.

Thanks for sharing about your uncle.

Fantastic.
Nostalgia reigns.
Just at a time when climatological experts are predicting most southern and low lying parts of the UK will not see much or any snow in years to come at Christmas or the winter as a whole. It will really be a question of dreaming then, though White Christmases have been a rarity in many parts for some years, with snow fall usually a little later.  .

Bing is at number 12 on the Billboard artists charts beating a lot of the ‘newer fellas’ from his time such as Sinatra, Martin, Williams, Elvis, and Mathis, along with the newer fellas of today like Bieber, Underwood, Mariah Carey, and a good bunch of other current artists I don’t listen to. It’s quite amazing to me how far up on the artists chart after so long.
