'Bing' Magazine

Over on the ICC Bing Magazine website, in the 'News' section, Malcolm has announced the forthcoming arrival of the next issue, and reminded us that this year the ICC celebrates it's 75th Anniversary.

He also informs us of some of the content to come.

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

I don't know how Malcolm manages it, but he has put yet another great read together.  It requires a great deal of imagination to find adequate material. I'm sure he must put in a great deal of time and effort - and I know he twists many arms.

And Ken Crossland has got his hands on all the new issues to put together five pages of reviews.

And, very reassuring, the ICC is attracting new members. I do hope we manage to get some of them here too.

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

I agree, Richard.  This is my first "Bing" magazine with my new ICC membership, and what a fantastic issue, with some very good information surrounding Universal/Library of Congress.  I am also very much looking forward to the ICC 75th Anniversary KMH CD which I ordered today (along with my obligatory Jonzo CD order, as I try to keep getting some as money allows).  Thanks again to all the contributors involved!

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

Russell Davies in his show on BBC Radio 2 yesterday announced that he was holding BING magazine in his hands and he highlighted our 75th anniversary. He also thanked us for reviewing his show. He then went on to play "I'm An Old Cowhand" from 1936 to tie in with our anniversary. There is a Listen again facility - go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006wqz0 if you'd like to hear it. It's after the second song.

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

Quote from Russell Davies - 'They do take their Bing-Spotting seriously'  But of course, what else?

A programme well worth catching each week, packed with quality music of our type, frequently (of course) including something by Bing.  The BBC keeps these programmes available for a week - so there are 6 days left to hear it.

Congratulations, Malcolm on the mention.

I normally listen in but the holiday weekend disrupted my usual schedule, so only now catching up.

This show included

Frank Sinatra — You Are Too Beautiful
Cleo Laine And John Williams — If
Bing Crosby — I’m An Old Cowhand (actually taken from the Chronological Bing Crosby Vol 18 Jonzo, JZCD-18
Anita O'Day — I Never Had A Chance
Robert Tear— Home, Sweet Home
Dinah Washington — I’ve Got A Crush On You
Dinah Washington — Dinah Tells A Joke [Studio Chatter]
Harry Belafonte — Midnight Special
Ted Weems and His Orchestra — Harmonica Harry
Al Hibbler With Johnny Hodges’ Orchestra — Believe It, Beloved
Marlene VerPlanck — In April
Nat King Cole & George Shearing Quintet — Lost April

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

Arriving sometime soon in the postboxes of all ICC members.

Something to wait for!  Inside, according to the index, in addition to the regular items such as Keeping Track and One Sweet Letter from You, there will be -

Kathryn Crosby
The Collector's Choice Situation
In Search of Rosemary Clooney
Bing's 108th birthday celebration
An Evening with Bing Crosby
Crooning with a Crosby
Let's Take It from the Top
The British Connection
On the Down Beat
Bing and Dutch: The Reagan Centennial
A Master At Work
Banned Bing
Bing In The Lyrics
The Great Country Hits
Bing's 'B' Masters
Celluloid Crosby
Bing on the Soundtrack
Blue Moon
White Christmas and the Bob Mitchell Boys Choir
Just Like The Ones You Used to Know
The Official Home Of Bing Crosby
Mildred Bailey
Gord Atkinson's 'The Crosby Years'
Honest Abe

Some of those are fairly cryptic. A lost Rosemary Clooney? A banned Bing? Surely not! We know all about Band Bing, so what have we here??

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

I'm eagerly awaiting my copy as it wends its way to my P.O. Box in the hinterlands of the American Midwest.

And Happy Birthday, ICC!  You don't look 75.

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

Malcolm gives a preview on the Magazine's own site under 'Latest News' http://www.bingmagazine.co.uk/

Good news of Kathryn Crosby, and otherwise, as always a great read. Both the highways and the extraordinarily specialised little bye-ways are covered. Always something new to air.  Was there ever any artist who's career and output in every medium, was ever examined in such detail?

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

I received my copy of "BING" today - another great issue, and I was particularly drawn to the "Bing's 'B' Masters".  Lot's of good reading ahead for me tonight.  Thanks as always to all involved.

Re: 'Bing' Magazine

I received my copy on Monday as well. However, and I advised Malcolm, my copy has a 4-page print missing - 11/12 and 49/50.
Somehow that page was left out when being put together.
