Kevin,

Quite easily! I have a ton of Christmas music that I only play for a few weeks each year and now is the time to enjoy it. (I shall take a day out on Tuesday however to celebrate the 102nd anniversary of Mr. S's birth.)

And, after all, I have waited all these years to hear the "new" music on these CD's, so what's a couple of more weeks? I will enjoy them along with  a bunch of audiophile LP's I gifted myself with for my birthday & Christmas this year. 2018 will begin QUITE filled with "new" music.

BTW, by pre-ordering the CD's on Amazon, I saved enough money on the purchase price that by the time they shipped, I basically got "New Tricks" for free! (NOT meant to rub in anything to my European friends...just passing it along.)  The list price on Amazon on shipping day was just hair under $10.00 more than when I preordered 10/13.

Bing just arrived at my doorstep this early Saturday morning! Both look gorgeous in production and visual content. I am immersed in Christmas music now so I shall add these to my Christmas gifts and enjoy after the turn of the New Year.

Initial reports from around the web so far (though sparse) are all VERY positive as to the music!

So this is great news but at the same time DARN!

I have really expanded my Crosby collection from a couple of albums to maybe a couple of dozen over the last 12 months! One of the albums I bought were a Twofer on CD of this New Tricks and Fine Old Chestnuts... and now I wonder if I'll need to buy both again

BUY THEM! If they are anything like the previous official releases from the group, they will be in superb sound and have excellent liner notes and annotations.

Plus, who REALLY knows what precious masters were lost in that huge fire years ago at Universal Studios. No one has ever "come clean" with what was lost.

Great One News with The Groaner included!!    Good news everyone, Time Life has just come out with a 10 DVD set that has 27 different color Jackie Gleason Shows from the '60's.  Why am I mentioning this here?   Because one of the 27 episodes has BING as guest star.   I saw an ad for it and it showed Bing singing "Don't Fence Me In" and "Thanks A Million".   If the Bing Crosby Enterprises or whatever they call themselves won't release any Bing TV specials at least Time Life will.
Here's the website you can order it from:

Do these shows include Jackie's incredible opening monologues? If so, I AM IN!!!!! I have been looking for these online for ages...nothing! I loved that show as a kid and remember his great monologues the most. Sitting in his chair with a table next to him for his "tea" and ashtray.   GREAT STUFF!!!

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! The word from people within the Sinatra UMe projects (which have suddenly stopped) was that Bing was not selling and that all future projects were suspended. Obviously that is not the case and I apologize for the incorrect information. No one is happier than me that these new CD's are coming soon.

It also gives me hope that UMe is going to remain active with releasing future Sinatra product.

This takes a tad of the sadness and melancholy out if this weekend's anniversary remembrances.

I have been spending October by listening to Bing almost exclusively. The significance of next Saturday has not been lost by me.

But, sadly, the words from those near UMe are that all future official Bing releases are on an indefinite hold. They are $$$$$ driven and Bing hasn't sold well enough for them since they took over his catalogue.

And it looks like Mr. S is not far behind with a stoppage of new product from UMe. There is still a  glimmer of hope from his Columbia catalogue from Sony...but just a glimmer.

Ah ha!!! So he took the last touring show with the whole ensemble to Vegas? That is quite interesting. Perhaps breaking it in to take on the road to larger venues?  THANKS.

But, I was thinking of the "Golden Age" of Vegas (1955-1968) and thinking that Bing would not be the gambler's draw in that setting at that time.

Funny, but I don't associate Bing with Vegas at all. I can't remember ever seeing a hotel marquee bearing his name as the nightclub headliner.

It is just a sad...actually VERY sad...but true awakening that popularity brings sales which brings new product. We saw some of that for a few years from the Crosby estate. However, it appears as though sales were not up to the expectations of UMe and they have basically pulled the plug on any future releases.

I suspect that if sales were better (and things had a chance to take off after the fine PBS special) we would see far better progress on the Giddins book.

I can report that here in Los Angeles, the few record stores I visit do continue to have some Bing on hand at all times. I have yet to go into a store and find his slot void of any LP's.  I DO realize that this is a major music market so I cannot speak for those in smaller ones.

In fact, not long ago I got a copy of  his multi (6?) disc Decca anthology in which he introduces the songs, etc. in rather fine shape. It cost me $3.00 USD.

Hello all,

I really like RTPI. I have a mid 80's Japanese pressing of the LP which has superior sound. I play it more than many of my other Bing albums. It is truly relaxing and the Riddle arrangements are beautiful. Bing's short stint on Reprise found him in excellent voice.

Talk about opinions?  I like "Bing & Satchmo" but I'm not crazy over it. As far as "Fancy Meeting You Here" the concept is great (ala' Sinatra's "Come Fly with Me!") but I have grown very, very tired of the alleged "off the cuff" gibberish between the two. It's like buying a comedy album and within 6 months you know all the jokes by heart. I hardly ever listen to it.

Oh my....I just don't know. Yes, it is nice to get Bing's name "out there" again. But after all of this time, with all of these old interviews of contemporaries now long gone as well I don't know how much attention it will get.

And, I have to honestly say that my interest in the whole thing rather diminished when I saw that his nephew is "getting into the act" singing, etc. It's like he's looking for his 5 minutes of fame.

R.I.P. I recently purchased the fabulous 3 LP 180gm reissue of the Cole Porter Songbook by Ella. It is incredibly fine-sounding. I can hear things going on in those great Bregman arrangements that I've never heard before. I highly recommend it.

And I have chimed in here before how much I love the Bing/Bregman album. I play the Mobile Fidelity LP edition often.

Happy Holidays! I am now about to play this DVD for Christmas Eve and the date on the original single disc release here in the USA is 2003. So this has been floating around and available without having to buy any additional discs for quite some time.
