I've been watching Sgt. Bilko show every Friday from the DVD set, now in the last season and today I saw for the first time an episode with all of Bing's sons (1st family).   They were all very good, in the show the boys imagine themselves to be Bilko's sons, all of them did a funny imitation of Bilko's mannerisms, surprisingly Dennis did the best Sgt. Bilko imitation.  Then Bilko imagines himself as Bing Crosby and had a scene with each of the Crosby boys and was very funny as Phil did a funny imitation of Bing.   Great entertaining show, every episode is just that, by the way.  Extremely entertaining and very very funny program.  "Nice to see yaa."

Don't forget our boy Satch in the Bowery Boys movie "Blues Busters" where Satch suddenly sings like Bing when he has a sore throat.  Funny stuff here.

That's not good, if there's a tape warble or wobble sound at the end of the song that's disappointing.  I have the CD I bought some years back that pairs it with another Buddy Cole wonder, I can tell you there's no wobble sound at the end of More than You Know on this CD:

Sunday night I saw the beautiful color version of Holiday Inn.   Oh how sweet it is.  Unfortunately the colorizers seemed to have been ashamed of colorizing and just barely added any color to the movie.   It looks like one of those barely tinted b/w photos that they used to add a touch of color to.  The good news is if you turn the color intensity dial ALL the way up (and I do mean ALL way up) you get to see the movie looking very nice and in beautiful proud color.  This and Welcome Stranger have got to be my 2 favorite Bing movies.

Great, just what I've been waiting for to "read all about it" that is a movie that has been restored and has YET to be released on DVD.  Isn't it obvious people want to see the movie not read about it?  Don't get the density.

Speaking of "Around The World" my favorite version of this song is by Nat King Cole, the musical orchestral accompaniment is just perfect.  It's a dream like sound, I only wish Bing had had orchestral backing like this for his '60's recordings.  The hokey organ and electronic drums really sound amateur. The singing is perfect but that Buddy Cole stuff is awful, that's why I always choose the "New Recordings" made with great orchestras drowning out the Buddy Cole hoke.   Has anyone heard the most recent release of these re-recordings with great orchestra added?:

I've never sung karyoke or whatever but I always "sing along with Bing" in the car or at home.  Sometimes I think I sound just like him.
Speaking of which, has anyone ever tried to actually Sing Along With Mitch either his TV shows which I've recently been watching or his albums?   I find I can not sing at all when it comes to trying to harmonize with the Mitch Miller singers, I am always off key and in the middle field.   I think they all sing in a totally different key than Bing.   I know for certain I have sung the very same songs perfectly before when I sing with Bing singing the same exact songs.   But singing along with Mitch, I sound like Lucy Ricardo.

Yes, I noticed a couple weeks ago INSP channel seems to be almost mirroring some of the very same specials GET TV has played or is still playing.   That Bing Goulet Christmas has been played many times, not to mention it's one of the extreme few Bing Christmas shows WIDELY available on DVD currently.  So it's hardly a find of the decade when either GET or INSP plays it, now if they were to play the Hollywood Palace Christmas special with Bing & Kate Smith, then you can ring out the bells and wake the neighborhood, that would be an event.
By the way, does someone out there want to tell Ron the real broadcast year of the Bing/Goulet special, I thought this was memorized by now.   If you really haven't heard you can buy the ONLY Bing Christmas DVD release that contains several different Bing Christmas shows on Amazon or even the Bing website, I hate to promote them though, you know the ones that still refuses to announce in advance what in the heck they are going to be playing that day or that week.   The Bing radio internet place is now all totally catch a good show if you're lucky and then only hear 1/2 of it cause you never knew to tune in in the first place.
And by the way, just how many decades have to go by before you (the Bing Enterprises) release Vol. 3 of the Bing TV specials???   Any answers to that yet?   I don't heeeeeaaarrrr youuuuuuu.

1971 was the first year I started to collect old time radio shows on cassette tape.  Wow, that was the beginning of a long steady downfall of collecting.  Just kidding, I've loved every minute of it.  Still and always will be on the lookout for anything unusual or never heard before (by me) stuff of all kinds.   Back then collecting radio shows meant taping them yourself off of radio stations that would play old radio shows.

This is really how I came to discover the greatness of Bing Crosby, thru his radio shows.   I had seen Bing as a kid on Hollywood Palace, and just thought of him as that old guy that sings, but hearing him on radio I realized how clever and funny he was and what a natural singer he was.   If it weren't for old time radio shows back in the early '70's I never would have "discovered" Bing.

That brings back memories to me of "stopping in" my old record stores, yes I said storeS, back in those days.  Today I don't know of any old record stores around anymore.  But I did once just as you did now, I found an old copy, in great shape, of Holiday In Europe.   Since that time I got a CD copy of the Japanese CD release of this album.   Perfect sound on that Japanese CD release, that's what I now have transferred to my computer Media Player, so I can hear this album any time I want.   This is one of my all time favorite Bing albums.

I haven't seen the Hol. Inn play but I have seen many clips of it on You Tube and from everything I've seen it appears they are NOT following the film plot or even the film's music.   They sing songs that did not appear in Hol. Inn and it looks like they are concentrating on the Fred Astaire character rather than the Bing character.  It just looks very much changed from the film.  I could be wrong, but from what I've seen on You Tube it looks like another play or story all together.

That is interesting, I had thought this was an actual soundtrack recording of the TV show, but this is the record version.   Actually if this is true it's better news than if it were just a TV soundtrack as the Decca album itself has not been released before on CD!!   I made a CD myself of my album some years back and you can also hear someone's posting of it on You Tube, but this is a great opportunity for anyone who'd like this on CD.

But this leaves the main question, in the year 2017 why is it they are only releasing a TV soundtrack, not the TV show itself.  Technology has now moved beyond just soundtrack recordings of TV shows, the TV show itself can now be released.

Looks like this must be a soundtrack recording of the TV broadcast, not the Decca album which you can hear and see right here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBCyfumD_NY

I bought this album many years ago, they re-released it and I believe mine may the re-release version as the quality is high.  But if you want to hear the Decca album you can find it on the link, it's different than the TV soundtrack.

The first comes from the soundtrack of the movie.
The second comes from the Decca recording of the song.
The third comes from a radio broadcast, my guess is that it comes from the radio version, I believe it was Screen Directors Theater, I don't have it in front of me, but it was a 1/2 hour radio version of the Holiday Inn movie with Dinah Shore.  It might come from another radio show too, I would have to compare the various radio versions to tell for certain, but it seems to me it's from the radio version of Holiday Inn.

I would assume these are either uncut or mostly uncut shows.   Nowhere in the ad does it say "uncut" but it did show Jackie talking with his guests Jack Benny, Milton Berle, Tiny Tim and others.  I also remember those openings Jackie did sitting next to a table drinking booze from a coffee cup, MMMMM, that's good.   But since they say 27 episodes that tells me these aren't clip fests but rather whole or at least near whole shows.  Can't guarantee anything till I see for myself.

Great One News with The Groaner included!!    Good news everyone, Time Life has just come out with a 10 DVD set that has 27 different color Jackie Gleason Shows from the '60's.  Why am I mentioning this here?   Because one of the 27 episodes has BING as guest star.   I saw an ad for it and it showed Bing singing "Don't Fence Me In" and "Thanks A Million".   If the Bing Crosby Enterprises or whatever they call themselves won't release any Bing TV specials at least Time Life will.
Here's the website you can order it from:

Billy Joel, you're braver than I am.   I listen to all kinds of music, movie/TV soundtracks, the more obscure the soundtrack the better I like it (as long as it's one of my favorite TV show's or movie's background music).   I don't really listen to one CD at a time anymore though, now I listen to different cuts from literally 100's of different CDs that I've downloaded onto my computer's "Media Player".   Thanks to this marvelous technology I can listen to 100s of my CDs every day (well, cuts from different CDs, as I have the Media Player set to "Random Play" where it picks the next cut from whatever album it goes to next.   This is really what I've always wanted, my own radio station that plays all my favorite music all the time, I never want to "turn the station" anymore, no commercials to suffer thru, just great songs from great albums/CD all the time.   I LOVE IT!!!

Been listening to amongst 100's of others Walter Brennan, Bill Frawley's "Sings The Old Ones" album, "2 For The See-Saw" soundtrack, Bing, of course, (I have more Bing CD downloads than any other artist), Sophie Tucker, Ted Lewis, Jimmy Durante, Jo Stafford, Peggy Lee, Rosie, Nat Cole, Johnny Hartman, Merle Haggard, John Conlee, classic instrumentals from '50's and '60's, Arthurs Godfrey & Tracy, Don Williams, Dean Martin, well, I'll stop myself now.   But every song's a winner in my listening world.   A couple really terrific inventions in my lifetime, DVDs & computers that play music from CDs and MP3  player that plays all my favorite music again downloaded from my computer's CD downloads.   Now even driving in my car it's one great wonderful song after another and NEVER do I feel like "turning the station" anymore.

Life changing inventions that have made my life so much better.

Ahh, FINALLY, great news Bing people have finally woken up and are releasing a couple new CDs.  I'm very happy.  But can anyone tell me what is UMe???

Now with the rather odd announcement that this is last '50's release, does this mean we won't see the release of a disc I've been waiting eons for, "Holiday In Europe"?  Though, maybe this was an early '60's album, it's still one that is LONG overdue for a CD release and a lot more needed than yet more extremely old radio recordings of Bing as are in the new Souvenirs release.  I'd much rather buy Holiday.. than many of the poorly chosen cuts on the Souvenirs release.

ALSO, WHEN will the Crosby company EVER release more Christmas Bing TV specials or even non-Christmas Bing TV specials??   If they are incapable of imagining what they can possiby release, let me help out.  How about the complete collection of Bing's TV sitcom????  A one season show that would easily fit in a single DVD case.   It's been more than 10 years since they've released ANY DVDs of Bing TV shows, so many Bing TV specials, so much to choose from, and SO MANY that have NOT been released yet, it's a crime.   Why is this all bottled up in vaults and not released to people who are still alive to buy it????

I think I've only seen this film twice, maybe thrice at most.  It's definitely a downer and not the kind of film I like to see Bing in.  Not happy with Country Girl for the same reason.   Guess Bing wanted to prove he could act, but we already know that from ALL of his other films, so why?   Anyway, I may have to pull this dour little number out again to see it, maybe it's better than I remember.
