Television » BRAND NEW BING TV Special on Color Jackie Gleason Show Set » 15/10/2017 6:30 am

Greg Van Beek has just sent me a message. "Just wanted to give you a recap of what's on the Jackie Gleason Show from 1967 just released on DVD. Bing's solo of Don't Fence Me In remains, as does the final number Thanks A Million. Dear Hearts & Gentle People, along with San Fernando Valley were cut, and the entire medley Bing sang with Jackie is gone as well. A great pity."

Film » Road films on Bluray? » 14/10/2017 9:39 pm

I ordered the two Road films on BluRay and whilst they are ok I can't really see much improvement on the DVDs. Bali has the option of a commentary which I found very annoying.

Gary Giddins has completed Volume 2 and it's with his publishers. I agree with you about the new Mathis album.

Biography » Bing in Spokane » 04/9/2017 2:47 pm

Martin McQuade tells me that this was just broadcast this morning at 4 AM eastern time on C-SPAN 3 as part of a program, 'American History in TV in Spokane, Washington." Bill Stimson (an ICC member) speaks fluently for 15 minutes from the Bing Crosby House. Well worth watching. See:Bing Crosby American Culture, Jul 3 2017 | Video |

Film » Board Not but Man On Fire » 02/9/2017 5:56 am

Very interesting and thanks for spotting this. "Man on Fire" is not one of my favourites but Bing's acting was excellent. However I wouldn't want to watch the film again, which is something I don't say about many Crosby movies.

I have this one from 1976 when he was at the Aladdin.

Film » Bing in the 1945 film "State Fair" » 03/8/2017 5:56 am

Seem to recall that we investigated this many years ago and we concluded that it was not Bing singing. I'll check my files.

Auf Wiederseh'n by Bing is indeed the Vera Lynn song and in fact Bing mentions Vera in his introduction.

Swaps and Sales » The Chronological Bing Crosby Series from Jonzo - Complete Set » 21/6/2017 4:49 am

Had an email from a friend today saying the following.
"VIP Music Merchant, 61B The Whittle Estate, Cambridge Road, Whetstone, Leicesterhire LE8 6LH, UK  ( is advertising 31 of the 51 cd set on eBay.  The cost is GDP2.99 each.  The mailing cost to the USA is GDP4.00; I don't know what it would be locally.  Perhaps some of the members would appreciate knowing this, in case they need any of them."

Many of you are wondering what's happened to the spring issue. UK members should receive their copies next week. Perry Huntoon, who will be distributing the USA copies, is away from home at present and will not be back until May 8. So USA members will probably have to wait until mid-May for their copies. My apologies for this but the problems with so many USA members not renewing promptly meant that Wig has had to send out many letters chasing non-payers before he could confidently say how many copies he needed for his members. In turn we could not tell the printer how many magazines he should print overall until we had Wig's input.
