When I used to present 'Mainly Bing' on Community Radio, I always had a spot and played Bing's 'Happy Birthday' to wish anyone having a birthday - yesterday, today or tomorrow or whenever.

Whatever- today is BING day, or what is left of it. Disappeared in Australia but still a few hours left in the USA and UK. More hours in Hawaii.
Sing Bing on your birthdate.

Well, I've been allowed to do another Bing and Errol double bill remembering their day of departure from this world.
However, I have to settle for 7th. October as the 14th. is already taken for the Roxy Theatre.
This year I will show Bing's 6 Sennett shorts.
Errol will be shown in his very first film - In Wake of the Bounty. An Australian made film by pioneer film maker - Charles Chauvel. Errol plays Fletcher Christian and it was made in 1933 and runs for 60 minutes. A couple of years later Clark Gable played the same role.
So, put it in your diary for a 2.00pm kick off.

Some of my favourite Bing songs, which is no where near a complete 'like' as just about everything he recorded was good. I think he could have been given more 'loose' recordings later on as compared to the arrangements in the early 30's.
Anyway, just a very minute selection of good sounding Bing.
Down by the River; The Very Thought of You; Lovely Lady; As Time Goes By; Dancing in the Dark; Swanee River; Deep Purple; Dinah; Easy to Remember; I Wish I Were Aladdin( movie soundtrack); The Touch of Your Lips; and many more through each decade finishing with songs on the Seasons album.

Well, I have the 'green light' to do another Bing and Errol screening.
However it is going to be on Sunday 7th. October instead of the 14th. As the Roxy is already booked for another event.
This year I will be screening Bing's 6 Sennett shorts he made and for Errol it will be his very first film - In Wake of the Bounty, just over an hour.
Hope w have a good turn out - plenty of time for publicity.
So, save your pennies and come to Morton for the w/e - there is a good size motel, Mexican restaurant at the site and some other food outlets around town.

Well, 8 months away.
I dislike the use of 'just' and 'only' especially in terms of money language.
Our clocks went forward this Sunday morning.
Darn nuisance having to get up at 2.00am to do it though.

My first Bing record - a 78 - before I had a radiogramme was 'Faith of Our Fathers'.
First LP was a 10" Bing and Boseell Sisters - a 21st. Birthday pressie and nothing to play it on.
First CD - I can see it now but it is in Australia and can't exactly remember the name.
All 78's were usually 10" but I do have a 12" - 78 - St. Louis Blues.

My first 'stereo' player was a HMV, with speakers each side of the player. You had to place it in a corner at an angle for the sound to bounce off the walls.

I'm arranging for another Bing and Errol feature. Was planning for Sunday 14th. October but the Roxy already has something scheduled so I will be having it on Sunday 7th. October at 2.00pm.
Will be screening Errol's first ever film - In Wake of the Bounty. He plays Fletcher Christian who was later played by Clark Gable.
For Bing I'll be showing his six Mack Sennett shorts.
On 3rd. March at the Roxy at 7.00pm is - World of Dance. I am going to be the MC and guess what my introduction music is going to be (hopefully) is Bing singing 'All You Want To Do Is Dance'.
There are two versions on YouTube - recording and the film clip.

V.I.P. Vic.
Growing up and hearing Vic for the first time it sounded as though his name was - Victor Mone - and not Vic Damone.
After seeing him at the London Palladium and waiting at the stage door to see him, a man said to him - Vic, I have all your records and hope you really make it one day.
Vic responded - thanks.
Another departure on the week end was former Australian rugby international and Lord Mayor of Sydney (his wife Maria, was Governor of NSW) Nick Shehadie at 92. Nick was instrumental in introducing the Rugby World Cup.

When I met Bing in Seattle in 1957 he was with Bing.
I was so in awe of seeing Bing and saying hello that I ignored Phil. Looking back I guess I may have been quite rude to ignore him but I was only 23 and just landed from Australia a few days beforehand and couldn't believe my luck in actually meeting Bing after being a fan for about 13 years and just having arrived in North America. Later on I attended a Bob Crosby fun raiser in Los Angeles and visited the Crosby office and met Larry.
Later on I met and spoke to Bing a few times when living in England late 60's and 70's.

I, too, prefer Bob when with Bing.
Telling a joke he would not move on until he got a laugh. You'll see happen sometimes as the audience doesn't laugh immediately, so he waits a little while.
I worked with a man in Sydney who worked in Hollywood as a writer and he told me that they were waiting for the marriage of Bob Hope to Bob Hope.

Thanks Gary for finally finishing this next piece of Bing's life amongst all your other projects.
Has a price been set yet?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from 'down under' where we look like having it quite 'white' from the heat and in the north some places will be 'white' from the snow and ice.
Wherever you are - all the very best and as our friend sings - it's not the things you do at Christmas time, but the Christmas things you do all year through.
And our cricketers on Boxing Day will be looking for a ton from the bat but not from the weather gauge.

Just watched on WAVE channel 24 INSP, Bing's Christmas show with Robert Goulet and Mary Costa and of course the family. Bing mentions Berlin writing WC about 25 years ago - so show from 1966/67.  The programme info said 2000.
Next week - Perry Como.
