Hi Malcolm - thanks for the catch. I had that date typo everywhere! My age is catching up to me.

Yes, I got them from the Spokane LP. I was digging through some of them. Great material!

Here is my third episode of A Trip Down Memory Lane. I think I worked out the kinks from episode 2.

Please keep the comments and suggestions coming - only one Bing recording in this episode!

Ruth Etting is very overlooked! Loved your list. I'm not sure about Connee Boswell's hat in the one pic!

Here is a list of some of the deaths of 2017 - as usual there are sadly some Bing associates in the group:

Merry Christmas to all. To my new Crosby friends I have made - merry Christmas! And to all of my friends that I have lost touch with - let's make 2018 a year to reconnect!

Happy holidays!

Lately I have been listening to some musical soundtracks - I am rediscovering the soundtrack to Good News (1947) and Silk Stockings (1957).

I figured this would be an interesting post. I love discovering "new" old music of other performing Bing! I just discovered in my collection this recording of Hal Kemp & His Orchestra (with a Skinnay Ennis) singing "Boo Boo Boo" which Bing introduced in "College Humor", but Bing never recorded commercially. Not a great song...but cute.

I hope it's okay to publicize this here. I had started broadcasting - or attempting to on You Tube. This first episode is counting down my five favorite male singers. I encourage comments and suggestions!

On this 40th anniversary of Bing Crosby's passing, I am trying to remember Bing's life more than his death. I was only three when Bing died - but his death marked the end of an era for popular music. One song I have been listening to this past week is his rendition of "Once In A While" from his last recording session on October 11, 1977 - only three days before he died. Although this marked the end, listen to the recording and it was still so full of life. Bing Crosby will always be missed. He has been gone for 40 years, but his gifts he gave to the world still linger on.

I would say from a vocal ability - I would say Billy Joel, maybe Michael Buble.

As an all around entertainer - records, movies, etc I don't think anyone has come close since Elvis.

Judy Garland was a very underrated singer. I am more of a fan of Judy's Decca recordings - just listen to her versions of "No Love No Nothin" or "That Old Black Magic". However, I do like one of the more obscure songs Judy did later in her life. She recorded a song called "The Land Of Promises" in England in 1964, and it's a favorite track of mine.

I know the Bing and Rosemary Clooney duets are the most beloved, but I think the Judy and Bing pairing is my favorite.

Growing up my Grandfather hated the dramatic films Bing did, but I really like this film. I think I will rewatch this again. I really like Bing's version of the title song Man On Fire. No one really mentions that hidden gem.

I am hoping with Gary Giddins new book it will bring more interest. The sad thing is Bing has been gone 40 years now, and it took too long for the owners of his recordings to really try to sell Bing. The owners of Sinatra and Dean Martin's material have done a good job of marketing them as compared to Bing.

I'll never get tired of Bing Crosby, and I am proud that my 7 year old son and now my 4 year daughter listen to and know who Bing Crosby is!

Sirius Radio has started a Billy Joel channel so I have actually been listening to his music. He was great in the 70s and 80s.

As for the older fellas, I have been relistening to a lot of Dick Haymes and Tony Martin lately. Tony Martin especially I think is overlooked.

Bing Crosby author and Hofstra film professor Ruth Prigozy has died. She was a driving force at the 2003 conference at the university and she wrote books on many stars like Bing and Dick Haymes:

I am having the same trouble you are. When I first started collecting Bing in the mid 1980s, every time I went to a flea market or thrift store, I would find a new Bing Crosby. Now I have almost every Bing record on CD, so I can't find much new! Ebay seems to still surprise me but it is few and far between!

I got a copy of this reissue and the sound is out of this world. It's a great item for a Bing Crosby fan, and I hope this project gets to attention and response that it deserves. It is a wonderful issue for Christmas and all year round!
